Role overview 
 Fully accountable for investment strategy plus originating, analysing, processing and monitoring of preference share, mezzanine debt and other Hybrid Capital transactions in South Africa and the Rest of Africa. Responsible for leading the origination and execution of transactions with support from the existing team. Key Result Areas 
 Investment Strategy and Deal Origination 
 Source proprietary deals through industry and banking networks, corporate relationships, and advisors. 
 Lead due diligence (commercial, financial, legal, ESG) and present investment opportunities to the Investment Committee. 
 Execution and Structuring 
 Negotiate transaction terms, including BEE transactions, mezzanine debt, preference shares, or hybrid capital instruments. 
 Structure deals that balance investor and fund return targets with borrower company capital needs. 
 Oversee legal documentation, financing arrangements, and pay-away processes. 
 Portfolio Management 
 Sit on boards or act as a strategic advisor to portfolio companies. 
 Provide regular reporting, updates, and performance to investment committees and investors. 
 Manage exit strategies to optimize fund returns. 
 Fundraising 
 Build relationships with Limited Partners (LPs), family offices, DFIs, and institutional investors. 
 Contribute to fundraising campaigns, roadshows, and capital-raising documents (PPMs, DDQs). 
 Leadership and Team Development 
 Mentor Principals, Associates, and Analysts in deal sourcing, modelling, and execution. 
 Cultivate a high-performance, collaborative culture within the fund. 
 Uphold compliance with Sustainability team, fund governance, risk management, and regulatory frameworks. 
Skills, Qualifications and Experience 
 B Comm., B Bus Sci., B Eng. or relevant equivalent tertiary qualification. 
 CA(SA) preferable; CFA highly advantageous. 
 Proven experience in an established corporate finance, investment management, merchant banking, or private equity environment. 
 Minimum 8 years' work experience in mezzanine finance, private capital or corporate finance. 
 Understanding of leveraged finance, mezzanine finance, preference shares, BEE and private equity markets. 
 Articulate and confident with a strong commercial focus. 
 Well-developed financial modelling experience.
