The Role
As Operations Engineer, you'll support the ongoing performance, maintenance, and optimisation of multiple operational solar plants.
You'll play a key role in ensuring compliance with O&M contracts, managing technical performance reporting, and supporting CAPEX and OPEX budgeting.
The position is based at the Cape Town Head Office, with regular travel to project sites across the region.
Key Responsibilities
Support and monitor plant operations to ensure optimal generation and availability.
Oversee HSE and environmental compliance through regular internal audits.
Manage forecasting and reporting requirements under O&M contracts.
Prepare monthly and annual performance reports, including root cause and incident analyses.
Oversee spare parts planning, procurement, and equipment lifecycle tracking.
Provide input into annual O&M budgets (CAPEX and OPEX) and cost optimisation strategies.
Liaise with grid operators, service providers, and plant teams to ensure efficient coordination.
Develop and standardise maintenance and troubleshooting procedures across plants.
Implement digital systems for performance monitoring, documentation, and maintenance logging.
Support ongoing training and capacity building of on-site O&M staff.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree or trade qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
Minimum 5 years' experience in plant operations, maintenance, or engineering management.
Previous experience in the renewable energy sector essential (solar PV preferred).
Strong skills in budgeting, performance reporting, and maintenance planning.
Competent in Microsoft Excel and other analytical/reporting tools.
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel up to 2 weeks per month.
