Job Description


  • To maximise specification performance, in line with Company objectives and strategy, working as part of the national team to drive product proposition to develop customer satisfaction and to facilitate specification vs order closure.
  • To engage with Developers in region around Benefits of Drywall versus conventional by co calling with Specification managers and upskill them
  • Role based in region.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications required to fulfil the role
  • Degree, Diploma or relevant industry qualification in construction/building disciplines is preferred, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Matriculation, including English and Maths.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant higher qualification is desirable.
  • Good working knowledge of current design packages eg BIM.
  • Driver licence.
  • Candidate needs to be able bodied, enthusiastic, energetic, and willing to travel daily.
Specific Work Experience, Knowledge and Skills required to fulfil the role
  • Proven technical expert within their field - experienced architectural technician.
  • Successful promotion of solutions /specifications.
  • Ability to identify innovative solutions.
  • Ability to interpret technical designs/drawings.
  • Knowledge of construction process stages and ability to identify opportunities to improve efficiency within a customers' construction programme.
  • Understanding of current market legislation, e.g SANS 10 400 XA and the Green Star Rating System and the practical implications and impacts within a business.
  • The ability to articulate a high degree of technical knowledge to key stakeholders (external and internal) to enable translation of opportunity into commercial benefit.
  • Supply chain awareness, understanding the process and identifying/targeting opportunities.
Additional Requirements

Key Accountabilities
  • Accountable for conversion from Architect specification to QS implementation to solid Spec in BOQ being actively involved with shared responsibility with new SM role.
  • Ensure follow through from specification managers nationally to QS to order in line with KPI and Spec.
  • Proactively identifying new opportunities through key stakeholders; Developers (in region) and Quantity Surveyors for enhanced specifications, uncovering and understanding these through application of trained techniques, supply chain knowledge, commercial awareness and in depth knowledge of customers' businesses.
  • Achievement of local demand forecast in line with regional KPI. Shared responsibility with new SM role.
  • Prepare cost estimates / price schedules for product systems through the engagement of the regional SG loyal sub-contractors, in management in bidding on or determining price of product or service and rate establishment by building system type.
  • Facilitate demand planning and forecasting for national projects
  • To work across the supply chain, internal and external, engaging Quantity Surveyors, and influencers to promote system solutions.
  • Manage the QS function on national large projects.
  • Facilitation of the price schedule process on PSA 1 projects and others (criteria for others).
  • Guided by National Specification Managers, update Quantity Surveyor on Saint-Gobain specifications.
  • Peruse and advise on bills of quantities and correct Saint-Gobain specifications.
  • Collate all BOQ's on Project Action Group Folder and ensure spec managers nationally add BOQ on CRM.
  • Ensure that projects are serviced professionally from a QS point of view.
  • Support with updating QS libraries and digital platforms on current innovations and name changes in BOQ.
  • Initiating quantity surveyor relationships and to a lesser degree main contractor relationships.
  • Work closely with all regional specification team including follow through on Specsure.
  • Assist and /or give presentations to project management team, with focus on the Quantity Surveyor.
  • Project tracking through close team work with spec managers nationally to quantity surveyor, to tender, to appointed tenderer, passing on project feedback to spec managers nationally.
  • Costing & estimating Plan and Procedures.
  • Development of costing and estimating plans and strategies, aligning with price schedules.
  • Communication and relationship building with clients, key stakeholders, developers (within region) and quantity surveyors.
  • Attend regional Habitat meetings giving timeous feedback when required via MS TEAMS.

  • Adherence to strict ethical codes of conduct and maintenance of confidentiality at all times.
  • Successful management of CRM Project leads through Quantity Surveyors where applicable.
  • Strong focus on building sustainable relationships with Quantity Surveyors and to a lesser degree Main Contractors to maximise market advantage ensuring KPI regarding Gyproc specification vs projects are met.
  • To be driven by performance board vs standard board KPI's by ensuring specification offering includes product stand outs, expertise and advise on advantages of our comprehensive product range. Communicating the entire value proposition to customer.
  • Working with other team members to develop technical & selling skills, assisted by NSM.
  • Adherence to company reporting procedure/commercial admin systems, offering appropriate feedback and information.
  • Responsibility for safety aspects within area of responsibility.
  • Manage product performance issues in-line with Company guidelines.
  • Awareness of broader SG proposition to pass on potential opportunities presented.
  • Provide timeous input into management reports as and when required to National Specification manager.
  • All such duties and/or activities assigned by management/board as and when required.
