Multimedia Communications Specialist (Job Level 7)

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is currently recruiting a Multimedia Communications Specialist at our Tygerberg campus. The main purpose of this position is to develop and implement multimedia content and information technology-based multimedia products that combine text with audio, pictures, graphics, virtual reality, digital animation, audio and video. The incumbent will collaborate with internal and external partners of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and with the Communications and Marketing team of the Stellenbosch campus. The incumbent will design and build moderately complex webpages using a variety of graphics and software applications, techniques and tools and may use scripting languages. The incumbent will design and develop user interface features, site animation and special effects elements. The incumbent will design and develop the group's efforts to enhance the look and feel of the Faculty's online offerings by applying web and embedded technologies. The incumbent will design the website to support strategies and goals relative to external communications. The incumbent will serve as a skilled storyteller, develop dynamic, customer-focused multimedia content that also support internal/external messaging needs. The incumbent will also serve as "talent" or host of the multimedia content that is produced. The incumbent will produce content for internal and external audiences including, but not limited to, training materials, employee news, benefits and safety videos, social media, etc. The incumbent will manage multiple projects at once in a fluid, flexible and rapidly changing environment.

The incumbent must ensure that all the Faculty's offerings on the various communication platforms (online media, print, video, promotional and advertising material, events and stakeholder engagements) are of excellent quality that demonstrably contribute to the positioning of the Faculty globally.

We therefore seek a highly skilled, self-motivated, high-performing professional for this permanent post within the Department.

Duties:

  • Developing and executing a digital strategy for the Faculty;
  • Responsible for the planning, building, and implementing of digital marketing campaigns across multiple channels and platforms;
  • Using organic search campaigns, paid advertising, email marketing, social media, and other channels to increase awareness about the Faculty, brand, study opportunities and services;
  • Copywriting and content creation to support online marketing campaigns;
  • Writing guest posts for digital PR campaigns, creating articles and other resources for organic search, and even writing eBooks for gated content plays;
  • Using graphical tools, such as Adobe Illustrator, to create visual assets for display advertising, email marketing campaigns, or infographic marketing;
  • Administering the Faculty website and sub-sites and publishing content to support marketing campaigns;
  • Managing the Faculty's content management system and performing technical website optimisations by modifying HTML or CSS code;
  • Monitoring the performance of the marketing campaigns and optimising it over time;
  • Using data analytics software tools like Google Analytics to understand how the Faculty's web traffic is being generated, and identifying the best opportunities to advance business goals like generating brand awareness or increasing conversions;
  • Using visual design skills in combination with conversion rate optimisation (CRO) software to improve the performance of landing pages and drive conversions;
  • Preparing reports, dashboards, or presentations to demonstrate the results of marketing campaigns;
  • Analysing campaign outcomes and showing a positive return-on-investment from digital channels;
  • Meeting specific KPI targets, such as total conversions, total leads generated, or number of engagements.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, broadcast journalism, digital media, or in another relevant field, and some experience in public relations or another communications role, or any equivalent combination of education and experience (must have the ability to participate in 24/7 social media monitoring rotation and after-hours and weekends on-call incident response);
  • Trained in videography, video editing (with the ability to edit in Adobe Premier, Final Cut Pro and iMovie), and photography/videography lighting;
  • Graphic design experience (with the ability to create using the Adobe suite);
  • Working experience of general HTML template-building, Everlytic, UXD and UI web design, SharePoint Framework/JavaScript, Adobe Illustrator/InDesign/Photoshop;
  • Two to four years' experience working in a related field;
  • An established track record of multimedia applications;
  • A high level of written and verbal communication skills coupled with sound interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrable ability to proactively respond to and manage crisis situations within a high-pressure environment;
  • The ability to work in a demanding and fast-paced environment;
  • Key analytical thinking and problem-solving skills pertinent to functioning at an operational level;
  • Creativity and innovation in driving and promoting communication and marketing strategies via various communication media;
  • A flexible and adaptable temperament in order to effectively engage with multiple stakeholders within and outside the Faculty and University;
  • A high level of computer literacy skills at an intermediate to advanced level (MS word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc., and a working knowledge of relevant software applications, i.e., desktop publishing, graphic or photo imaging software, webpage creation and editing software, and social media applications;
  • A valid driver's licence and own transport (as the job requires regular travel, also after hours, between Tygerberg campus and the main campus in Stellenbosch).
Recommendations:
  • Knowledge of policy and procedures related to university administration;
  • Social media management experience;
  • The ability to master the craft of enhancing user experience (UX) and user interface (UI);
  • Knowledge of colour psychology within graphic design and how to use colour psychology, grid systems, and web fonts by designing websites that are visually appealing and are responsive to all kinds of devices.
