Position Overview

This position will be responsible for assisting in designing and coordinating company communications. Maintains policies and procedures, monitoring company media, and utilizing electronic publishing technology.

Primary Responsibilities

This role is accountable for:
  • Coordinate communication content creation and implements assignments in line with established policies. Implementation of communication plan and shares company information through a combination of methods internally and externally.
  • Promotes communication guidelines for all employees to use.
  • Coordinates and executes the communications activities at tactical level, monitors the performance measures, reports on progress
  • Monitors the performance measures/success to report on project's progress and present results to Senior management.
  • Contributes in maintaining policies and procedures, monitoring company media, and utilizing electronic publishing technology.
  • Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job

  • Knowledge of and ability to develop, produce and distribute news, newsletters and other communications materials targeted at the employees.

  • Explains the organization's ethical practices, categorizing language as acceptable versus unacceptable.

Public Relations:
  • Knowledge of organizational practices and considerations for communicating in the public arena, from the community to global public relations (PR); the ability to communicate to various forms of media outlets exefxacx80ectively and establish favorable public relations.

  • Reviews standard guidelines on the avenues involved in public relations. Positions the general layout and content of a press release.
  • Works with organizations in the community in support of the local image. Explains the distribution process of a press release.
  • Coordinates current PR activities in the community.
News Media Communications:
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply the means of news media (radio, television, newspaper) to achieve organizational broadcasting or publishing goals.
Level Independence:
  • Assists with coordinating communications for print or broadcast media. Explains the dixefxacx80erence between news and feature story requirements. Evaluates the legal implications of a press release.
  • Researches standard journalist editing rules such as 'Associated Press.' Resolves common media communications problems and obstacles.
Publishing*:
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize the processes and tools used in the design, development and publication of various organizational materials such as press releases, briefings, and marketing materials.
Level Independence:
  • Assists in the paperwork of a publishing or production function. Develops the content and layout of organization-specific materials.
  • Performs the processes and tasks associated with publishing internal or external materials. Assembles components of various presentation materials.
  • Researches common publishing problems and resolution techniques.
Copywriting and Editing:
  • Knowledge of a variety of formats, styles, and techniques for publishing materials; ability to develop and review these materials to promote business related activities.

  • Writes or edits publishing materials, scripts or other communication media.
  • Follows standard style guidelines such as 'Chicago Manual of Style' or 'Associated Press. Selects appropriate marketing copy or promotional text for specific types of publications. Assesses considerations for matching the format and style to audience needs.
  • Reviews and discusses common problems with written text.
Graphic Design:
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply design principles to the development and publication of organizational information.

  • Develops and produces layouts for publishing.
  • Uses standard presentation software and related technologies. Participates in training to operate computer graphics design software. Assists in choosing layout considerations for specific types of publications. Explains common design problems and considerations.
Desktop Publishing Tools*:
  • Knowledge of and ability to use desktop publishing software for the design and development of various organizational materials.
Level Guided Working:
  • Identifies tools used for the publishing function.
  • Names key features and functions of desktop publishing software. Locates components of a standard publishing software toolkit.

Qualifications & Experience
  • BCom/BA: Bachelor's degree in public relations / journalism, communications (Mandatory)
  • Computer Literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook,

  • 5 years relevant experience within a corporate environment (Mandatory)
