Job Description


Duties and responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning Activities

  • Coordinate modules SCSI2612 and SCSR2622.
  • Coordinate tutorials in SCSI2612 and SCSR2622.
  • Collaborate on the development/re-development of the relevant course material where necessary.
  • Design tutorial activities that intergrade skills with disciplinary content as contained in the workbook.
  • Ensure that every tutorial takes place - organise for someone to cover if a facilitator is unable to make a session.
  • Prepare Blackboard platform.
  • Upload appropriate material on Blackboard in liaison with lecturer.
  • Ensure that all facilitators undergo relevant and appropriate training and mentoring when it comes to carrying out their duties (facilitation and marking).
  • Run at least one tutorial group per week (if relevant) and or monitor the quality of the sessions.
Consultation
  • Handle queries and complaints.
  • Oversee election of class reps.
  • Evaluate students' request for sick tests/assessments; validate and approve those that are valid (this includes setting new submission dates).
Monitoring
  • Compile module files for review purposes.
  • Monitor Blackboard activity (in all groups) and co-ordinate and report learning analytics from Blackboard to lecturer.
  • Monitor attendance and attendance statistics (received from facilitators) and provide information to facilitators as to who needs to be followed up in weeks 3 and 6 of each semester (liaise with TLC for information).
  • Provide information to facilitators about managing the at-risk of xe2x80x9cincompletesxe2x80x9d in weeks 4,5,6 (as appropriate) of each semester.
  • Moderate marking done by facilitators.
Administration
  • Take responsibility for the academic management of the module for both campuses (Bloemfontein and Qwaqwa) on all platforms (Blackboard and PeopleSoft).
  • Liaise with the conveners/lecturers (across campuses) of the convening departments/divisions regarding content.
  • Construct timetable and module calendar in liaison with the conveners.
  • Ensure that necessary DALRO forms have been completed (copyright clearance has been adhered to if relevant).
  • Ensure that weekly meetings take place with facilitators (pre-tutorial cycles).
  • Help facilitators who are battling to manage activities.
  • Oversee the logistics and submission of assessment activities (which includes arrangements for internal moderation and application for mark reviews).
  • Oversee the logistics and submission of marks and the compilation of the report for the examination board in collaboration with the relevant Programme Director(s).
  • Ensure student marks are captured on gradebook.
Research
  • Stay up to date with relevant policies relating to Teaching and Learning.
  • Review the impact and effectiveness of the module(s).
Inherent requirements:
  • An Honours degree on NQF Level (8) in Social Sciences or equivalent qualification in a related field of study.
  • A minimum of two (2) years' facilitation experience.
Recommendations:
  • Experience with a learning management system (preferably Blackboard).
  • Preference will be given to applicants who show proficiency in one or more of the following languages: English, Afrikaans, Sesotho and IsiZulu - applicants may be required to take a competency test in respect of the languages indicated above.
  • A good academic record.
