Purpose of Job

Accountable for the full value chain of supplying underground and surface support to the Colliery to ensure safe mining of coal with more 2 stonework sections, and/or an excess of 70 000m3 stonework, and/or main belt infrastructure in excess of 42km, according to comparative cost and quality requirements adhering to all legislative requirements by leading, directing and managing the support services of large Colliery. The Colliery also has a surface plant, significant infrastructure that will fall under this portfolio of responsibility. This position carries a 3.1 legal appointment for the mine.

Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

  • Short term Mine logistics, infrastructure and support planning - Develop and own production downtime (due to infrastructure)
  • Long term resource planning - Recruitment, training and career development
  • Safe Production - Manage support operations and make appropriate adjustments to support Mining operations to deliver agreed volumes at optimal productivity and cost in normal time (including diesel workshop, water reticulation, stonework, building of roads, fleet management, etc.)
  • Balancing short term priorities vs long term sustainable mining practices and productivity, adhering to all legislative requirements, e.g. water reticulation, environmental conditions
  • (Finance) - Prime responsibility for annual budget including volume, capex and cost requirements and control cost to ensure production volumes are achieved within budget.
  • (SHE) - Overall accountability for strategy to strive towards best-in-class safety performance and continuous improvement of key safety metrics to maintain license to operate.
Formal Education

University Bachelors Degree

Formal Education and Experience (MUST)

Government Certificate of Competence (Mining for Fiery Mines or Engineering)
AND
B. Eng / BSc Eng with a minimum of 7 years relevant engineering in mining industry experience, with minimum 6 years Operations (Maintenance or Production or Production Services) Management Experience
OR
B Tech / N Higher Dip with a minimum of 10 years relevant engineering in mining industry experience, with minimum 4 years Operations (Maintenance or - Production or Production Services) Management Experience
OR
Mine Overseer Certificate of Competence and Mine Managers Certificate of Competence with a Minimum 12 years relevant engineering in mining industry experience, with minimum 4 years Operations (Maintenance or Production or Production Services) Management Experience.
