Job Description

Job Summary Nestled within the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, this intimate lodge offers a tranquil retreat along the Bua River. With seven secluded safari tents, each featuring a thatched roof, private deck, and en-suite open-air bathroom, some accommodation is situated on a river island accessible via a suspension bridge. Surrounded by miombo woodlands, the lodge provides an immersive experience in the African wilderness, complemented by locally inspired cuisine, game drives, canoeing, cultural events and guided nature walks.
Candidate requirements:

  • 5-10 years of experience managing lodges
  • Proven experience in managing remote properties in Africa
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage renovation and maintenance projects
  • Knowledge of guest service standards and hospitality best practices
  • Passion for conservation, nature, and sustainable tourism
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive attitude
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a couple, sharing responsibilities
  • Culturally sensitive and adaptable
Key responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive management of lodge operations, ensuring adherence to quality standards, safety protocols, and environmental best practices.
  • Oversee and coordinate ongoing renovations and maintenance projects, liaising with contractors, suppliers, and staff to ensure timely and effective completion.
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to build a cohesive, motivated, and efficient team, including staff training and performance monitoring.
  • Design and deliver personalized guest services to enhance guest satisfaction, foster positive guest relationships, and promote repeat visits.
  • Manage guest bookings, inquiries, and feedback with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Maintain and improve lodge facilities, grounds, and amenities, ensuring they meet specified standards and support sustainable tourism principles.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Cultivate relationships with local communities and conservation programs to promote responsible tourism and community involvement.
  • Assist with marketing efforts, including promotions and outreach initiatives, to attract diverse visitor groups.
  • Ensure excellent control of fresh, dry, and kitchen equipment as well as all other lodge assets. Systems will be developed and put into place in cooperation with the Lodge Consultant.
Live-in role with fully furnished accommodation, provident fund and meals.
3 month on 1 month off cycle.
