Pezula, our Nature Hotel and Spa in Knysna seeks Maintenance manager to lead their team.

The Repair and Maintenance manager will maintain all aspects of the Hotel in good, clean, working conditions through a preventative maintenance program. They will also oversee and assist in Hotel upgrades and renovations.

Minimum requirements

  • Matric
  • Tertiary qualification in maintenance (preferred but not essential)
  • Project Management qualification (preferred)
  • QHAS Qualification (advantageous)
Experience
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years in a similar position
  • Project Management or supervisory experience (essential)
  • Previous experience in the hospitality sector (advantageous)
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor personnel and mentor supplier relationships
  • Extensive technical, practical leadership experience in the relevant field, including experience in projects and maintenance
  • Site and facilities experience preferred
  • Experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team
  • Sound knowledge of architectural drawings and layouts
  • OHAS and related acts / regulations (advantageous)
  • HR support (performance appraisals, disciplinary issues, salary reviews) for a large team
  • Hands on project management exposure to upgrades / renovations essential
Main purposes of the position

Management
  • Plans, organises, directs and controls all aspects of the maintenance department
  • Daily issues of work allocations, and monitors the completion thereof
  • Ensure log books are kept of all snags picked up by the operations team
  • Control Project Management books
  • Understand all specs on wood and metal items
  • Attend regular meetings and relay information to staff
  • Dealing with guests in a friendly and efficient manner
Gardens and grounds
  • Hotel gardens to be immaculately manicured and maintained
  • Hotel irrigation systems to be efficiently operational
  • Plan the growing, harvesting and planting of flora depending on crop and season
  • Assist the kitchen in vegetable and herb gardens, ensuring it is maintained and always has plants available
  • Establish suitable controls for energy and water conservation
  • Liaise with master horticulturalist
Property Maintenance
  • Conduct annual conditioning surveys
  • Initiate, monitor and control preventative maintenance programs
  • Developing and planning of alterations to ensure more efficient operations
  • Daily walkabouts through property to ensure that all areas are neat and clean and all work is on track
  • Ensure all rooms are in 100% working condition prior to guest arrival
  • Back of house areas to be of the same standard as Front of House
Stores
  • Securely store all tool in a safe place to prevent loss/damage
  • Ensure that all stocks and supplies is timeously requested, correct stock levels are maintained and stock ordered under optimum conditions
  • Repairs damaged or construct new equipment when required
  • Conduct stock takes and sign off asset list
Controls
  • Ensure that only approved suppliers are used for contract work
  • Have a brief signed off before having outside contractor work done
  • Check and sign off contract work before they leave
  • Ensure purchase order procedures are followed
  • Control monthly budget and investigate how to reduce costs on electricity, gas, water
Health and Safety
  • Be aware of all safety and emergency procedures and that the team is fully trained
  • Ensure all fire safety equipment is serviced regularly
  • Ensure security system is in 100% working condition
HR
  • Understand and maintain manplan while staffing according to occupancy and projects
  • Liaise with recruitment consultants to ensure team consists of efficiently qualified staff
  • Hold regular on the job training and coaching sessions
  • Conduct regular performance and probationary reviews
  • Maintain accurate attendance records
  • Ensure that fair and equitable discipline is applied
  • Manage staff files.
