Job Description


Job Summary

To supervise and oversee the maintenance staff responsible for the overall maintenance of the resort's structures, buildings and amenities. This position requires previous experience in maintaining the infrastructure of a hotel, guesthouse or a lodge. The successful candidate would also supervise the environmental committee and ensure that all Health and Safety is adhered whilst working in unison with the security manager as part of the Health & Safety committee.

This is a live in position.

Qualifications and required experiences:

  • Electrical Red Seal certified + min 3-5+ yrs exp as an Electrician,
  • Matric Certificate.
  • Min of 3-5 years' relevant maintenance experience.
  • Min of 1-2 years' experience coordinating independent projects and / or task.
  • Min of 5 years in building / trade environment. Ideally HVAC or Electrical
  • Experience in hand and power tools.
  • Basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing and brick laying.
Duties

Maintenance Operations
  • Ensure that maintenance staff are correctly dressed, and that they offer professional and courteous service to
  • Implement daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual schedules of tasks to be performed.
  • Ensuring that all operating equipment are maintained and in a good working condition.
  • To ensure that all reticulation services such as water, drainage, electricity, gas, air-conditioning is maintained and closely monitored.
  • Ensure that repair tasks are organized and scheduled in a manner that does not disturb guests.
  • Ensuring that requests and requirements from the General Manager / Management are treated constructively and promptly acted upon
Administration and Management
  • Check duty rosters in allocated areas, ensure coverage and monitor timekeeping and absenteeism.
  • To circulate regularly throughout the property areas, maintaining a high profile with guests and staff.
  • Effectively conclude face to face meetings with all staff that are under your management.
  • Approve all maintenance requisitions so as to ensure that they are prepared properly and placed in a proper and timely manner in compliance with companyxc2xb4s instructions.
  • Informs General Manager and puts in relevant request when inventory is required or equipment needs to be replaced.
  • Ensure that staff performs tasks as instructed, in order to achieve the desired results.
  • Finding ways to improve the reduction in operating costs and conserving energy.
  • Planning and forecasting possible future problems and implementing necessary steps to prevent or eliminate the risk.
  • Responsible for the overall implements, consumptions of all maintenance polices and procedures pertaining to employees, work manuals, sanitation requirements and health and safety requirements.
  • Deal with complaints escalated promptly and calm down irate guests.
  • To be familiar with all Health and Safety measures.
  • Create and maintain a stock system.
Staff Learning and Development
  • Regular feedback and performance appraisals are conducted with all staff, identifying areas for development and training needs.
  • Ensuring that regular on-the-job training is carried out with staff to ensure that they perform their duties correctly to set standards and that all identified training needs are scheduled and implemented.
  • To ensure that the most suitably qualified person is appointed in the event of a vacancy - wherever possible this should be an internal promotion.
  • To ensure that staff under your control are trained in Health and Safety measures.
Customer Service
  • Ensure the quality of services in accordance with the company standard.
  • Dissatisfied guests are acknowledged immediately and attended to without delay. The guest is assured that the complaint will receive immediate attention and such complaints are resolved within the individual's ability or are referred to the appropriate person. Complaints are followed up where appropriate to ensure satisfactory action.
  • Identify customers' needs and respond proactively to all of their concerns.
