Job Description


Purpose of Position
To reduce focus on Work integrated Learning for all programmes on offer and in turn positively impacting the success rate and graduation rate. The overall operationalisation of WIL on campus; to ensure that requirements stipulated in the policy and professional requirements are met, offering support to students through establishing relationships with the industry and securing placements where there is a need.

Education (formal qualification requirements) xe2x80x93 ideal

  • NQF level 7 qualification in Public Relations/Journalism/Social Science and relevant lecturing discipline
  • NQF level 7 qualification in Education (PGDHE or equivalent); Training and Development an added advantage.

Position Description PA / Main Outputs and Responsibilities for this Position

1. Academic Management and Leadership -Teaching and Learning (30%)
  • Creation and promotion of academic culture on campus
  • Act as mentor to new lecturers.
  • Assist in conducting workshops on teaching and learning. Coaching and mentoring of students in preparation of Work Integrated Learning
  • Work with the librarians on information literacy for students and lecturers: promotion of information literacy, promotion and use of Ebscohost
  • Assist in programme design of student support developmental workshop topics which could include, but not be limited to: study skills, academic convention workshops.
  • Assist and support Work Integrated Learning (WIL) initiatives on campus, specifically, but not limited to: WIL training for IC lecturers, WIL coordination, WIL monitoring & evaluation, WIL reports.
2. Academic Development and Performance Monitoring (30)
  • Conduct student orientation workshops
  • To secure placements for students on programmes that have the requirement
  • Approve placements and ensuring that a contract is in place before the placement commences.
  • Distribute WIL letters students who require placements
  • Conduct class visits and consult with students on all Work integrated learning queries
  • Integrate student support services in the classroom
  • Manage disputes and complaints between lecturers and students
  • Managing conflict or breakdown in or of the placement. Initiate disciplinary enquiries and hearings
  • Planning and facilitation of Lecturer forum meetings in support of WIL lecturers
  • Ensure lecturers integrate appropriate student support services into the classroom based on learner needs
3. Teaching and Learning Delivery (10%)
  • Lecturing approximately 12hrs a week.
  • Lecture preparation, delivery, marking, assessing, evaluating, record keeping, student support, moderation
  • Student developmental workshops
4. Programme Development and Review (5%)
  • Do research, development to support skills, which will include but not be limited to: book reviews, academic articles, celebrating Teaching & Learning, attend developmental workshops, attend CSO and IIE workshops
5. Student Retention rates (10%)
  • Analysis of exam results and monitoring of module success rates and throughput rates of programmes
  • Developing and implementing improvement activities for Work Integrated Learning modules across qualifications on offer
6. Academic (10%)
  • Achievement of acceptable through put rate of 70%, pass rates 65%+ and Graduate success rate 60%+. Achievement of academic targets.
7. Discretionary (5%)
  • Overall Performance. Support the Academic Team to ensure that deadlines are met student queries are resolved within agreed time frames administration processes completed

Working Hours (Full Time)
  • Classes are scheduled from 08h00am until 17h00pm, Monday to Friday. Your working hours will depend on the modules allocated to you.
