Nova Pioneer is looking for a superstar Leadership & Innovation and Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) teacher to teach grades 8 - 12 and spearhead the development of the academic programme for Leadership & Innovation at our Ormonde school in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2024 . This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic teacher who has leadership and some SEL teaching experience to empower students using an enquiry-based learning approach and to be a part of an innovative network of schools that is developing generations of innovators and leaders who will shape the African Century.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Leadership & Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Resident Teacher, you are responsible to teach grades 8-12 and help to establish a unique, innovative leadership and social and emotional learning programme at Nova Pioneer. Resident teachers lead instruction and planning for the subject or grade level classrooms they teach and are responsible for driving a rigorous, enquiry-based learning environment the Nova Pioneer way. Resident teachers are supported by Deans of Instruction who partner with them in their growth journey by observing lessons, providing feedback and coaching. The Leadership and SEL Resident teacher also works closely with the Dean of Students. Resident teachers support and mentor apprentice teachers. Key responsibilities for the role include:

  • Work closely with Global Leadership team to design rigorous lesson plans
  • Work with school leadership to create a framework for Nova Pioneer's leadership academic programme
  • In consultation with our school psychologist, establish and run a Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Programme across all grades
  • Deliver impactful and engaging enquiry-based lessons supported by technology to enhance instructional delivery
  • Observe, coach and be a model teacher for new teachers
  • Infuse joy and passion for learning into lessons so that students are excited about and invested in their academic excellence
  • Set and communicate rigorous and ambitious goals for all students and provide student feedback so they internalize it
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student progress
  • Use assessment data to adjust instructional content and delivery techniques accordingly
  • Attend weekly feedback meetings with Deans to enhance teaching practices
  • Fully participate in opportunities for professional growth including daily team meetings and reflections, weekly professional development meetings, instructional coaching, and organisation wide learning and reflection
  • Communicate regularly with parents through e-mail, telephone and parent-teacher conferences
  • Contribute to and participate in co-curricular programming for at least one activity in the course of a term
  • Participate in a variety of collaborative teams and committees, fulfill supervision duties as assigned including occasional morning, evening and weekend events
ABOUT YOU

Skills and Qualifications required:
  • Bachelorxe2x80x99s degree in Education or Bachelorxe2x80x99s Degree + Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
  • You are SACE registered
  • You have vast experience incorporating leadership principles in the classroom
  • Experience and/or understanding of Cambridge curriculum objectives would be a strong advantage
  • You are able to lead a classroom independently
  • You have a deep passion for student support and growth and student-centered learning
  • You embody Nova Pioneer's culture principles and are ready to enthusiastically model them for students and fellow staff members
  • You are highly organised and excited by the opportunity to lay a foundation for new programmes at Nova Pioneer
  • You are willing to engage with both students and their families outside of class time
  • You are creative and energetic
  • You have a strong willingness to learn new strategies for leadership and SEL from the leadership team and school psychologist
  • You are a team player and you enjoy group problem-solving
  • You are adept at using technology for instruction

  • You communicate openly and effectively with your colleagues
  • You are adept at using technology for instruction
