The Role
As Lead Solar Engineer, you will provide strategic engineering direction across a portfolio of Solar PV and BESS projects - from early-stage development to construction and operations.
You'll work closely with engineering consultants, project managers, development teams, and site teams to ensure that all projects meet the highest technical, safety, and performance standards.
This is a role for a hands-on, solutions-focused engineer who enjoys both technical depth and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and manage Owner's Engineer activities across all technical disciplines
Review and approve designs, specifications, studies, and technical documentation
Support procurement, supplier negotiations, and construction strategy
Lead quality assurance processes including Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs)
Provide expert engineering input during development, construction, and operations
Interface with site teams to resolve design challenges and track progress
Develop and maintain detailed QA/QC procedures and checklists
Lead lessons-learned programs to improve project performance
Identify system optimisation and upgrade opportunities for operational plants
Manage solar engineering CAPEX and performance improvement projects
Conduct Root Cause Analysis for major failures or performance deviations
Represent the company in technical discussions with contractors, partners, and regulators
Maintain strong relationships with OEMs and key suppliers
Stay current with industry standards, codes, technologies, and best practices
Promote a strong safety culture in offices, construction sites, and operating plants
Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering
Minimum 3 years' experience in Solar PV and/or BESS engineering
Experience in the design and construction of renewable energy plants
Exposure to projects in Sub-Saharan Africa strongly preferred
Strong project management and technical leadership skills
Excellent analytical, reporting, and risk assessment capabilities
Strong commercial awareness and understanding of contract structures
Willingness to travel up to 50%
