Position: Lead Design Engineer - Mechanical Works

Role Overview

Kurima is seeking an experienced

Lead Design Engineer - Mechanical Works

to take technical leadership of mechanical design activities across projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for engineering design integrity, compliance, and oversight from concept through to implementation.

This role requires a

professionally registered engineer

with strong leadership, design authority, and a deep understanding of mechanical systems within regulated project environments.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the

mechanical design function

across assigned projects Develop, review, and approve

mechanical design calculations, drawings, and specifications

Ensure compliance with

applicable codes, standards, and statutory requirements

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers Interface with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams Support project planning, risk identification, and value engineering initiatives Ensure designs are practical, constructible, and aligned with project objectives Participate in design reviews, audits, and technical sign-offs

Minimum Requirements

Professionally registered with ECSA

or equivalent (Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng - mandatory) Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification in

Mechanical Engineering

Proven experience in

mechanical design engineering

within construction, infrastructure, industrial, or process environments Demonstrated ability to lead design teams and take technical accountability Strong knowledge of relevant

South African and international engineering standards

Proficiency in relevant

engineering design and drafting software

Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills

Advantageous

Experience in multidisciplinary projects Exposure to project execution and construction support Strong client-facing and stakeholder management experience
