We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop foundational accounting skills within a dynamic environment. The Junior Staff Accountant will support various accounting functions, assist with financial reporting, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of financial systems, financial concepts, and accounting software, along with a desire to grow their expertise in corporate and non-profit accounting.
Duties
Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
Assist with general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations using various software
Support accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice processing and payment tracking
Conduct bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial data
Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support management decision-making
Contribute to regulatory reporting and compliance activities, including SOX and Securities law requirements
Support internal audits and external audit preparations by providing necessary documentation
Maintain accurate records of financial transactions using double entry bookkeeping principles
Collaborate with team members on special projects related to corporate finance, governmental accounting, or non-profit accounting as needed
Assist with tax-related activities and ensure compliance with relevant tax laws such as Wills, trusts & estate law when applicable
Participate in mentoring junior team members and contribute to a collaborative team environment
Skills
Strong understanding of financial systems, financial concepts, and technical accounting principles including accrual accounting and debits & credits
Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms
Knowledge of SOX compliance, LIHTC programs, governmental accounting standards, and securities law is a plus
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial report writing, data analysis, and forecasting
Familiarity with financial statement preparation, interpretation of financial reports, and financial analysis techniques including cash flow analysis
Ability to perform account reconciliation accurately and efficiently; experience with bank reconciliation is preferred
Understanding of regulatory reporting requirements for various sectors including non-profit organizations and public accounting firms
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently
Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration within teams and mentoring junior staff members
Demonstrated knowledge of bookkeeping practices such as journal entries, account analysis, general ledger reconciliation, and accrual accounting principles
