We are a leading South African confectionery manufacturer, producing a wide range of sweets, chocolates, chews, toffees, lollipops, and bubblegum. With modern factories, strong R&D capabilities, and a passion for quality, we serve wholesale and informal markets across Africa. We're looking for a dynamic Junior Production Manager to lead our manufacturing operations and deliver excellence across multiple product categories.




Role Overview





The

Production Manager

will oversee all aspects of production, ensuring that products are manufactured efficiently, cost-effectively, and at the highest quality standards. This role requires hands-on leadership, a strong understanding of confectionery manufacturing processes, and the ability to manage teams and resources effectively.




Key Responsibilities






Production Planning & Scheduling




Develop and execute daily, weekly, and monthly production plans to meet demand.


Ensure optimal utilization of machinery, manpower, and materials.



Operational Efficiency




Implement lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste and improve productivity.


Monitor key production metrics (OEE, downtime, yield, scrap rates) and take corrective action.



Quality Control & Compliance




Ensure all products meet internal and external quality standards.


Maintain compliance with food safety standards (HACCP, ISO, FSSC).



Team Leadership & Development




Manage and mentor production supervisors and staff.


Conduct performance reviews and training to upskill the workforce.



Inventory & Resource Management




Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely supply of raw materials and packaging.


Track and manage inventory levels to avoid shortages or excess.



Maintenance & Safety




Work closely with maintenance teams to minimize downtime and keep equipment in top condition.


Promote a safe workplace by enforcing health and safety procedures.



Requirements






Essential




Minimum 5 years' experience as a Production Manager or similar role in FMCG food manufacturing (

preferably confectionery

).


Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes for sweets, chocolates, and other confectionery products.


Experience managing multiple product categories and high-volume production lines.


Proven ability to lead teams and drive operational efficiency.


Solid understanding of food safety standards and compliance regulations.


Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.



Preferred




Degree/Diploma in Food Technology, Engineering, Production Management, or related field.


Experience with ERP/MRP systems.



Remuneration






* Competitive salary of USD $3,500 per month nett, plus housing allowance and vehicle and fuel allowance
