Job Description

Ba-Phalaborwa Golf Club, on behalf of Indalo Hotels and Leisure is looking for Irrigation technicians that will be responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of the golf course's irrigation system.

This role ensures that turf and landscaped areas receive adequate and efficient water distribution to maintain optimal course conditions. The ideal candidates will have experience with irrigation systems, a strong technical background, and a keen eye for detail in troubleshooting and maintaining water management systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Irrigation System Maintenance & Operation

Monitor, inspect, and maintain the golf course irrigation system, including sprinklers, pumps, valves, controllers, and piping. Perform routine system checks to ensure optimal water distribution across the course. Adjust sprinkler heads, pressure settings, and watering schedules to accommodate seasonal and daily changes in turf conditions.

2. Troubleshooting & Repairs

Diagnose and repair irrigation system malfunctions, such as leaks, clogged nozzles, electrical issues, or broken pipes. Replace faulty components, including valves, rotors, wiring, and controllers, ensuring minimal downtime. Coordinate with the Head Greenkeeper to plan and execute larger irrigation system upgrades or replacements.

3. Water Management & Sustainability

Implement efficient irrigation practices to minimize water waste and promote healthy turf growth. Monitor weather conditions and adjust irrigation schedules accordingly to optimize water usage. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and best practices for water conservation.

4. Record-Keeping & Reporting

Maintain accurate records of system inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, and water usage. Report any major issues, required upgrades, or ongoing concerns to the Head Greenkeeper or Course Manager. Assist in planning and budgeting for irrigation system improvements and replacements.

5. Health & Safety Compliance

Follow all health and safety guidelines regarding irrigation system maintenance and chemical handling. Operate and maintain irrigation tools and machinery safely. Identify and report any hazards related to the irrigation system.

6. Additional Responsibilities

Assist with general golf course maintenance when required, including hand watering, turf repairs, and landscape upkeep. Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to enhance irrigation knowledge and skills.

Minimum Experience

Previous experience in golf course irrigation, landscaping irrigation, or a related field. Knowledge of irrigation systems, including pump stations, control systems, and water management practices. Basic plumbing and electrical knowledge for troubleshooting and repairs. A valid driver's license is required.

Ideal Experience

Certification in irrigation management Familiarity with brands such as Rain Bird, Toro, or Hunter
