JOB DESCRIPTION WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  • You will be required to oversee the tax function, identify and mitigate tax risk in all foreign companies within the group as well as to ensure the timely completion of all transfer pricing documentation for the group. The objective of the ITM within the company is to enable the various businesses to operate optimally and cost effectively within various countries outside of South Africa, monitor the compliance with the relevant tax laws and regulations and provide specialist tax insight and opinions relating thereto;
  • General:
  • You will be required to identify and mitigate tax risks in the offshore structure of the group;
  • You will be required to assess the tax efficiency of the offshore structure and make recommendations on efficiencies that could be achieved;
  • You will be required to monitor tax compliance in the respective foreign subsidiaries of the group;
  • You will be required to assist in managing foreign revenue authority queries where required;
  • You will be required to improve processes by developing or implementing new policies or systems based on best practice;
  • You will be required to prepare tax papers and respond to foreign tax queries on an ad-hoc basis;
  • You will be required to prepare regular updates to the audit committee on the foreign tax compliance, tax risks and future projects to streamline the tax function within the group;
  • You will be responsible for mentoring and training group and divisional employees where appropriate;
  • You will be required to have excellence in preforming the role and ensuring information is complete, accurate and timeous;
  • CFC returns:
  • You will be required to oversee preparation annual CFC returns (for each foreign subsidiary) and supporting documentation for submission to SARS along with income tax return for the company;
  • Annual transfer pricing compliance:
  • You will be required to monitor compliance with TP requirements across all jurisdictions;
  • You will be required to oversee the completion of the group's TP documentation;
  • You will be required to critically review the group's TP documentation prepared by tax advisors and identify TP risks;
  • You will be required to monitor ongoing related party transactions to identify and mitigate TP risk;
  • You will be required to assist with the development TP policies;
  • You will be required to review CbC and related reporting;
  • Financial reporting:
  • You will be required to review the tax schedules of the audit packs of all foreign subsidiaries for year-end financial reporting purposes, including the income tax and deferred tax notes to the annual financial statements;
  • You will be required to liaise with divisions in respect of any queries or concerns arising from reviewing the audit packs;
  • You will be required to analyse the effective tax rate of all foreign subsidiaries, and question inconsistencies;
  • You will be required to review tax rate recon;
  • You will be required to prepare the tax disclosures (AFS) of all foreign entities;
  • Tax planning and M&A;
  • You will be required to review proposed M&A transactions and advise on the tax implications thereof;
  • You will be required to liaise with tax advisors, where considered necessary;
  • Other:
  • You will be required to work in a team - contribute to the wider team goals where relevant;
  • You will be required to provide relevant training and updates to the divisions;
  • You will be required to build and maintain positive relationships throughout the company's divisions and global footprint;
  • You will be required to build and maintain positive relationships externally;
  • You will be required to appropriate use of available systems;
  • You will be required to assist other team members with finding solutions and resolving tax issues as they arise;
  • You will be required to be part of task groups and project teams as required and work with the wider team to deliver as required;
  • You will be required to have technical expertise - keeping up to date with changes in taxation laws, accounting standards and software updates;
  • You will be responsible for critically reviewing and updating tax policy, controls and processes, where considered necessary;
  • Line manager:
  • You will be required to keep line manager appraised of all projects and status of deliverables;
  • Deliverables:
  • Board, management and advisory reports:
  • You will be required to research and prepare reports for executive review;
  • You will be required to advise group management on appropriate actions required to mitigate tax risks;
  • You will be required to present tax matters to board/audit committee and external forums if required;
  • You will be responsible for monitoring global tax compliance;
  • You will be responsible for identifying and reporting all material offshore tax risks;
  • You will be responsible for identifying tax / operational efficiencies across the group;
  • You will be required to provide ad-hoc tax advice to the divisional and international teams on transactions;
  • You will be responsible for CFC returns and provisional tax calculations;
  • Financial reporting:
  • You will be responsible for tax notes to the AFS (or portion thereof);
  • Annual transfer pricing compliance:
  • You will be required to oversight of transfer pricing documentation and CbC reporting across the group;
  • You will be required to have a strong relationship with head of tax, general manager - group finance, group finance teams and divisional finance teams;
  • You will be responsible for other deliverables as requested from time to time by the head of tax;
  • Accountabilities / key KPI's:
  • You will be responsible for development and execution of tax policies and controls;
  • You will be responsible for timely submission of tax returns across all territories;
  • You will be responsible for managing expenditure incurred in obtaining tax advice on offshore topics;
  • You will be responsible for quality of stakeholder relations;
  • You will be responsible for quality of reporting;
  • You will be responsible for quality of risk management;
  • You will be responsible for insights development for group management re tax risks.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • You have a minimum of B.Com Honours;
  • You are a CA(SA) (or equivalent) or have a post graduate qualification in taxation -
  • You are a chartered tax professional (CTP);
  • You are an accredited tax advisor (ATA);
  • You have a minimum of 5 xe2x80x93 8 years current, relevant international tax experience in Big 4 public accounting / multinational company;
  • You have experience and knowledge in African taxes;
  • You have strong knowledge of international tax laws;
  • You have project management expertise, including strong organisational and change management skills;
  • You have the ability to develop and maintain partnerships with cross-functional teams within the company;
  • You have transfer pricing analysis knowledge;
  • You have tax regulations knowledge.
