Job Description


A successful company involved with large scale farming using conventional farming techniques as well as hydroponics, to reduce risk by farming its products undercover. They also add additional value with processing, packing and distribution to local retailers. The Company's farming operations include large scale farming on a 500 hectare farm in Gauteng. Of the 500 hectares, 430 hectares are currently under vegetation.

Purpose of the job: Manage HR, Payroll, Health and Safety, Security and training.

List of Key Responsibilities: * Human Resources

  • Managing the recruitment and selection process
  • Always keeping track of headcount and the split of seasonal staff.
  • Recruiting and termination of seasonal staff.
  • HR Administration
  • Employment contracts
  • Maintaining personnel folders
  • Ensure employment contracts are signed and filed within personal folders
  • Updating personnel files
  • Assist in sourcing and facilitating Training initiatives
  • Organizing annual medical screening for packhouse staff as well as staff working with chemicals
  • Submitting EE reports WSP and ATR
  • EE and diversity - perform associated administration functions and record keeping requirements
  • EE committee meetings every quarter
  • Employment committee meetings every quarter
  • Dealing with unions
  • Participate in the annual Ethical audit
  • Monitor compliance with set company policies and procedures and ensure that company complies with labor regulations
  • Liaise with external consultants regarding BEE and ensure BEE compliance
  • Incident investigation and submitting of IOD documents in the event of a claim
  • Industrial Relations
  • Manage internal disciplinary processes and procedures including CCMA hearings
  • Ensure all discipline is done according to Disciplinary Code and Procedure
  • Liaise with external IR consultant regarding high profile cases.
  • Monthly Union subscriptions
  • Handle grievance proceedings and staff complaints
  • Payroll
  • Processing payroll in terms of monthly salaries and wages, terminations and new hires
  • All terminations and new hires are loaded each month
  • Updating and maintaining payroll records including clocking registers and biometric systems
  • Maintaining leave, sick leave, and overtime records
  • Submitting payroll reports to FM for payment 48 hours before pay date
  • Submit EMP201 Union deductions, compound, and security invoice 2 days before month end to MF
  • Preparing and distributing pay slips
  • Ensure deductions such as Union subscriptions, UIF, accommodation and loans are all captured
  • Ensuring Mukuru data sheet is correct and payment to them is on time
  • Submitting Mukuru payment schedule on time
  • Health and Safety
  • Appointed as Section 16.2 appointment
  • Ensure Health and Safety policies and procedures are followed
  • Ensure Safety representatives, First Aiders and Fire fighters are trained and appointed
  • Ensure all firefighting equipment is serviced regularly
  • Ensure forklift operator certificates are valid
  • Ensure we are compliant to all safety standards on site
  • Conduct regular HSE meetings
  • Conduct regular fire drills
  • Implement and update Health and safety policies and procedures
  • Order and issue annual PPE. Ensure stock is available for non-annual PPE for staff working with chemicals
  • Security
  • Manage the external security company
  • Follow up on any security concerns and reports
  • Weekly meeting with security personal
  • Submit invoices for payment.
  • Other
  • Basic IT maintenance, setting up of new equipment creating email addresses and Teams. Assisting other staff with IT issues
  • Ensure staff accommodation is managed properly and kept clean and well maintained
  • Ensure all Policies and Procedures incumbent to the organizational needs are in place and updated regularly
  • Proper filing system that complies to legal and business standards
  • Assist the rest of management with advice and participation when needed
  • Pickups or deliveries in case an urgency arises
  • Assist all other departments with their audit preparations
  • Knowledge and completion of SIZA or SEDEX ethical audit
  • Self-starter and able to work independently.
  • Knowledge of passports and Visa laws
  • Problem solver
