Job Description


The HOD role professionally manages the Foundry Maintenance Department. Provides a service to Foundry, X-ray, Melting and Heat Treatment as well as seeing to their daily requirements. The HOD reports to the Maintenance Manager and manages eight Artisans. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years experience within the same type of position.

Administrative:

  • Control expenditures within the approved budget for plant repairs and building maintenance.
  • Ensure daily job/time sheets are submitted timeously.
  • Capture completed job cards on a daily basis. Submits daily attendance register and
pay queries relating to time keeping. File copies of attendance registers and pay
queries. * Informs security through written passes before contractors enter premises.
  • Complete accident reports for WCA when necessary.
  • Raise purchase requisitions with the correct authorization before official HL orders
are produced. * Ensure critical spares are made stock items.
  • Complete insurance claims due to unforeseen machine breakdowns.
Physical:

Ensure all purchased goods correspond to the supplier's tax invoice.

Quality:
  • Ensure safety regulations are upheld by subordinates.
  • Responsible for enforcing housekeeping and NOSA requirements as per OSHACT.
Other:
  • Liaise with external contractors.
Supervise Employees:
  • Supervise maintenance employees. Assigns work to subordinates and instruct subordinates on actions to take in order to achieve high degree of resourcefulness and ingenuity. Ensure subordinates are equipped with the proper safety equipment to perform their functions/tasks.
  • Motivate subordinates in order to achieve maximum productivity.
  • Resolve grievances that may arise within the maintenance department.
  • Ensure consistent application of the Code of Conduct.
  • Liaise with HR with regards to the required disciplinary corrective actions to be taken
if or when required. * Communicate and enforce company policies and procedures to hourly paid

employees. * Identify training and on-the-job training needs for subordinates in conjunction with

the Training Department. * Arrange for replacements by liaising with HR department.

Planning:
  • Responsible for planned preventative and predictive maintenance.
  • Plan maintenance needs according to production requirements.
  • Prioritise work daily.
Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondences. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organisations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardizations exist. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Knowledge
  • Qualified tradesman with at least 5 years experience in similar environment.
