Job Description

The Head of Engineering is accountable for leading and scaling Sun International's software development, architecture, and technical delivery capability. This role ensures the product vision is realised through robust, secure, and scalable engineering practices, overseeing software development teams, system architecture, DevOps, coding standards, and technical execution. The position fosters a culture of quality, innovation, and continuous improvement, balancing hands-on technical leadership with strategic people and delivery management.

Engineering Leadership & Delivery

Lead and scale the software engineering organisation, including front-end, back-end, QA, and DevOps teams. Define and enforce coding standards, development methodologies, and engineering best practices. Oversee system architecture and technical design, ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability.

DevOps & Continuous Delivery

Drive DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation to improve deployment velocity and reliability. Collaborate with Infrastructure & Security to embed security and compliance into the development lifecycle.

Strategic Alignment & Innovation

Partner with Head of Product to translate business requirements into technical deliverables. Manage technical debt and ensure systems are future-ready and aligned with industry trends. Foster innovation, experimentation, and adoption of new technologies where appropriate.

Talent & Culture

Mentor and develop technical talent, promoting a culture of learning, collaboration, and engineering excellence. Monitor engineering KPIs (e.g., velocity, quality, uptime) and drive continuous improvement.

10+ years in software engineering with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Proven experience leading engineering teams in agile/DevOps environments. Strong background in system design, microservices, cloud-native architectures, and CI/CD. Experience in iGaming, fintech, or other high-availability digital businesses preferred. * Familiarity with security-by-design, performance optimisation, and scalable infrastructure.
