Role Purpose

To define, oversee and execute the Disability & Underwriting strategy for Momentum Corporate. Responsible for the full value chain management of the specialist teams across the Cape Town and Centurion regions. To facilitate collaboration, operational efficiency and service excellence across the regions. To ensure that national and global best practices are adopted
Requirements

  • Relevant Tertiary qualification with suitable experience.
  • Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy qualification will be advantageous.
  • At least 10 years Disability & Underwriting Management experience in the Financial Services and Group Insurance Industry.
  • At least 5 years proven people management experience and expertise at a senior level.
  • Excellent knowledge of Disability & Underwriting products and the Group Insurance industry.
  • Insights into trends within theDisability & Wellness Management within the Group Insurance Industry.
  • Proven track record of implementing various projects running concurrently.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Define the strategy and ensure the continued and effective operations of the disability management and technical underwriting function.
  • Drive innovation and the approach of using technology and digital solutions to improve client experience and internal processes.
  • Collaborate with the product development teams to ensure products remain relevant to address client needs.
  • Support the pricing teams with client/disability management insights
  • Improve process inefficiencies where identified.
  • Engage with third parties ad hoc projects and ensure that special projects to be delivered in line with requirements and within the agreed timeframes.
  • Management of Workflow: Empowering the team to manage the daily workflow and effective resource planning. Problems identified & resolved. Service Level Agreements adherence and production statistics.
  • Reporting: Deliver quality reports within agreed timeframes. Identify and report new trends in the market. Identification and reporting of system problems.
  • Compliance: Adherence to company policies and best practices in the industry.
  • Ensure broader collaboration where appropriate with other business units in Momentum Corporate and Momentum Metropolitan Group.
  • Partnering with the marketing and sales/distribution teams to ensure that the Disability management service and philosophy is recognised and appreciated.
  • Continuously look to improve on products and processes and to be a key contributor in the development process of new Disability products.
  • Ensure the effective financial management of the area with regards to operational costs and to ensure that there is a high standard of controls and operational governance.
  • Manage the team of Disability Claims Managers, Underwriting Manager and the Technical Specialist teams across the regions.
Client
  • Define and craft the client engagement strategy and managing of key relationships.
  • Leading the team to execute on the client engagement strategy including:
  • Customer engagement/retention: Engagement/retention of clients within current portfolio.
  • Support and relationship building manage and maintain relationships with intermediaries (external and internal), re-insurers, medical professionals, industry bodies, visits, presentations, telephone calls and emails.
  • External Customer Satisfaction: effective and consistent service delivery and support to external clients in line with company values and TCF principles.
  • Internal Collaboration: effective and consistent service delivery and support to all internal clients.
People

  • Control the budget for area, including the authorisation of expenditures and implementation of financial regulations. Manage resources effectively. Contain costs within budget parameters.
  • Manage high risk and problematic financial issues in area of accountability and contribute to the development of policy.
  • Plan and implement a cycle of medium- term improvements to drive pricing of services and products.
  • Implement and manage financial risk methodologies, techniques and systems and use to monitor and report on financial activities.
  • Implement and provide feedback on the effectiveness of financial policy, practice and procedures: preventing illegal, unethical or improper conduct.
  • Implement risk management, governance and compliance policies in own practice area, to identify and manage governance and risk exposure liability.
  • Investigate reported wilful acts of non-compliance to organisation policy and practice and report on findings.
  • Increase revenue: support business in increasing revenue.
