About the position
The ideal candidate will be based in South Africa.
The Grants and Finance Associate is a supportive role to the Project Finance team and will support the management of the financial, contractual, and administrative requirements of Dimagi's projects - this includes projects funded by US Federal, State, and Local governments, NGOs, Family Foundations, and Private enterprises. The Grants and Finance Associate also provide some support to BP&F (Budgets, Planning and Financing), a sub team of finance.
As a member of the Project Finance team, this role also requires additional ongoing coordination with colleagues based in other country offices as well as with various partners all around the world. The Project Finance Associate will report to the Project Finance Manager.
Responsibilities and Duties
Prepare accurate financial reports and project fund requests in close coordination with senior project staff and ensure that all financial reporting is delivered to partners within the required timelines.
Maintain financial reporting and tracking systems that provide data measurements on the financial performance of project activities.
Contribute to the budgeting process by offering targeted support to the budgets team as needed.
Provide ongoing financial administration support on projects and running the back office steps for contracts in JIRA and Salesforce.
Maintain project and grant budgets and track and compare projected expenditures to actual expenditures, ensuring contract compliance
Prepare project invoicing according to the budget and ensure that billing is completed and shared with partners timeously. Follows acceptable accounting processes and procedures.
Support project delivery, vendor and partner communications and requests, and develop and maintain relationships with project managers / delivery teams and partners.
Provide support to the BP&F team for internal projects/initiatives expense tracking, coordinated by the Accounting Manager.
Participate and contribute to the annual external INC/Global audit, including the A-133 audit and assist in the preparation of audit files shared by the project finance team.
Complete any various statutory registrations and financial documents for the company which Project Finance is responsible for.
Work on various cloud-based systems for accounting, task and time management, and project management (Salesforce, Sage Intacct, Jira, Clockify, Expensify, Slack, Gmail etc.) and supporting the allocation and correct flow of Project Finance's jira cases.
Provide support on Ad hoc requests and Project Finance initiatives and contribute to the workflow of the global BizOps team.
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
Relevant (3-5 years) experience working in a similar position OR relevant degree with experience in Grants Management, Project Management, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
Sound knowledge of financial accounting policies and procedures
Analytical and detail-oriented, reliable and committed
Strong organization, prioritization, planning, and problem-solving skills; able to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
Intermediate MS Office and Google Office Suite, with a focus on Excel/Google Sheets functions
Experience working on cloud-based systems
Flexible and easily adaptable to new processes and systems
Ability to work with a portfolio of partners and in a team
Ability to work under pressure and is a fast learner
Bonus Points
Knowledge of US Government Cost Accounting Standard
Knowledge of US Government contracts
Knowledge of Financial Audits and Requirements (in particular, knowledge of Uniform Guidance Single Audits) as well as NICRA or indirect cost-rates
Experience with contract review on US Government projects
Experience working with an international team and different time zones
Experience working remotely

The gross salary for this position which is affiliated with Dimagi's Cape Town office, is 603,703 ZAR annually.
