Generator Division Manager
(Millwright)
to lead our Generator Division.The Generator Division Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the generator division -- including operations, maintenance, servicing, installations, customer support, and profitability.
This role ensures that generator systems are
efficiently maintained, compliant, and commercially successful
, while leading the technical team and managing relationships with clients and suppliers.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Strategic & Business Growth
Expand service footprint through
new maintenance contracts or installations
.
Identify opportunities for
hybrid energy solutions
(solar + generator, smart load-management).
Prepare business cases for upgrades and division expansion
Customer & Stakeholder Management
Build strong relationships with key clients
Ensure service excellence, timely reporting, and clear communication during outages.
Respond to escalations and emergency call-outs effectively.
Operations & Maintenance
Plan, coordinate, and oversee servicing and repairs of all standby and prime-power generators.
Manage preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
Ensure availability of spare parts, consumables, and fuel supply logistics.
Maintain a full register of generator assets (location, capacity, service history).
Team Management
Lead and motivate a team of technicians, electricians, and field service personnel.
Implement performance standards, safety procedures, and technical training.
Ensure 24/7 call-out readiness for critical customers or facilities.
Commercial & Financial
Manage service contracts and maintenance agreements with clients.
Negotiate with suppliers for competitive pricing on parts and new units.
Track profitability per project and optimize technician utilization.
Technical & Compliance
Ensure all installations and repairs comply with SANS, NERSA, and municipal electrical standards.
Manage warranty claims and liaison with generator OEMs or distributors.
Oversee testing, commissioning, and certification of new installations.
Keep up-to-date with new generator technologies (hybrid, solar-diesel integration, automation)
Qualifications:
Red Seal Trade Test Certificate as a Millwright (essential)
Additional courses or certifications in
Operations Management

Project Management

Business Leadership
would be advantageous
Experience and Knowledge:
Proven experience in
operations management, technical supervision, or engineering leadership
, ideally within power generation or heavy industry.
Extensive hands-on experience working with diesel generators, control systems, and related electrical-mechanical equipment.
Strong commitment to safety compliance, with the ability to identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks.
Highly proficient in fault-finding and troubleshooting, using systematic diagnostic techniques to resolve mechanical and electrical issues efficiently.

Specific Requirements
Own reliable vehicle
Valid driver's license is essential
Valid driver's license with PrDP 'D' highly advantageous for the delivery of diesel
The ability to reverse with a bowser/trailer will be required.
Be flexible to work after hours in case of emergency

Normal working hours are Mondays to Fridays from 08h00 until 17h00 with a 45 minute lunch break. The company allows employees, by approval of the direct manager, to work flexi time between 06h30 and 18h30.
