General Maintenance Manager Engineering
Durban - KwaZulu Natal - South Africa

Our client, a leading distributor of chemicals across emerging markets & actively trading in several other commodities, is seeking an experienced General Maintenance Manager to form part of the team to oversee the general maintenance of all company buildings, machinery, & mobile equipment. This position will be appointed as GMR 2.1

Requirements:

• Engineering Diploma with an academic qualification of at least T3 or N5 (Mechanical) or higher
• Experience in fleet management, general building, & machinery maintenance on short conveyors / hoppers & blenders
• 5 years' experience in the chemical industrial / warehouse / mobile equipment environment, coupled with 5 years' in a middle management / leading role
• Skilled in conceptualizing & driving the mechanical maintenance strategy
• Ability & willingness to travel within SA

Key Performance Areas:

Maintenance of Buildings, Roads, & General Infrastructure (i.e., Fire Prevention & Sprinkler Installations):

• Must be suitably qualified & competent to be appointed as GMR 2.1 for all the site which includes warehouses across SA
• Regular inspections on all properties to ensure upkeep & possible improvements
• Prioritize & schedule repairs & maintenance that is required
• Utilize & manage approved sub-contractors for larger jobs
• Ensure all buildings & facilities comply to minimum statutory requirements
• Check electrical & hydraulic systems of buildings to ensure functionality

Maintenance of Equipment (Compressors, Weighbridges, Scales, Hoppers / Blenders, & Mobile Conveyors):

• Provide technical strategy to facility on how to improve equipment & machinery reliability
• Develop maintenance procedures / schedules & ensure implementation & maintaining of it
• Monitor equipment inventory & place orders when necessary
• Monitor expenses & control the budget for maintenance
• Keep maintenance logs & report on daily activities

Maintenance of Mobile Equipment (Trucks, FELs, Forklifts, & Bendi Machines):

• Ensure all mobile equipment is on maintenance contracts
• Ensuring compliance with regulations & the safety of all people operating machines
• Preparing periodic maintenance reports & status updates
• Manage OEMs & external service contractors
• Ensure procurement strategy / policy is followed in executing your responsibilities

General:

• Draft, present, & implementation of the maintenance strategy
• Manage contractors & service providers who are contracted to provide the company with various maintenance functions / services
• Accountable for total maintenance costs across all sites
• Establish annual financial plan in consistent with business needs, functional goals, & targets
• Ensure contractors / suppliers meet all SHERQ requirements
• Ensuring that CAPEX is strategically allocated to critical & future projects
• Serve as a strategic leader in equipment failures & repair techniques during root cause investigations
