The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong livestock management capabilities, hands-on operational experience, and the ability to lead farm workers with confidence and fairness. The candidate must maintain the farm infrastructure, and ensure the property's overall safety and security.
The candidate will manage the day-to-day livestock operations, oversee grazing cycles, and ensure the property's overall safety and security. This role requires a person who is decisive, trustworthy, and able to respond quickly to operational or security challenges.
Key responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:
Livestock Management
Oversee daily care, feeding schedules, and water management
Monitor livestock health and report/treat issues promptly
Assist with calving, lambing, vaccinations, dosing, dipping, and weaning
Implement grazing rotation plans and manage camps effectively
Maintain accurate livestock counts and record-keeping
Operations & Maintenance
Ensure farm infrastructure is functional (fences, gates, kraals, boreholes, pipelines)
Perform basic repairs or delegate and coordinate where necessary
Oversee and guide farm workers during daily tasks
Maintain vehicles, tractors, pumps, and other equipment
Security Management
Monitor perimeter, livestock camps, and farm entry points
Respond quickly to theft risks or suspicious activity
Work with local police where needed
Implement preventative measures that reduce losses and increase safety
Leadership Requirements
Ability to lead, train, and supervise farm workers
Maintain discipline and ensure all tasks are completed to standard
Fair, respectful communication
Able to manage conflict and resolve issues calmly and professionally
Minimum Requirements
1-3 years
experience with cattle and sheep farming
Strong livestock handling and knowledge
Agricultural Diploma / Degreee advantageous
Ability to operate and perform maintenance on farm machinery
Experience in managing workers is essential
Valid driver's licence (Code 8 or higher)
Trustworthy, reliable, and sober habits
Computer literate
Sesotho-speaking ability is a strong advantage
