Job Description

The Maths and Science Facilitator is responsible for providing academic instruction and support to Grade 12 learners who did not meet the Maths and Science requirements for university admission. The role ensures learners are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to achieve improved examination results and gain access to tertiary education, while also maintaining strong relationships with educational stakeholders and adhering to departmental standards.

Prepare teaching and study materials for the learners. Deliver tutorials and practicals in Mathematics and Science incorporating a variety of teaching methods and approaches.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS




Teaching and Learning




Prepare teaching and study materials for the learners. Deliver tutorials and practicals in Mathematics and Science incorporating a variety of teaching methods and approaches. Supervise learners' study period. Mark learners' scripts, provide constructive feedback, and track their progress throughout the program.

Learner Assessment and Support:




Continually assess the learners and provide individual tutoring and support to learners who require additional assistance. Assess learners' knowledge and skills through tests. Actively contribute to a learning environment that fosters students' confidence and academic success. Assist in the administration of the Maths and Science Programme.

Professional Development:




Participate in ongoing professional development workshops and training to stay updated on curriculum changes, teaching methodologies and technologies. Write trial and final exams alongside the learners to maintain high standards and ensure teaching quality.

COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS




Degree/ Diploma, any related or equivalent qualification in Mathematics/ Science. Minimum of up to 7 years' experience teaching and marking in Mathematics and Science at the Grade 12 level. Grade 12 examination marking experience. Computer literacy: Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office suite. Ability to identify and address learning gaps. Strong subject matter expertise in Mathematics and Science guided by the national curriculum. Knowledge of CAPS, the South African education system and curriculum development. Effective communication (written and verbal) skills. Strong interpersonal skills. A passion for teaching and empowering learners to reach their full potential. Ability to innovate and adapt to new ways of working. Must be able to be part of a team and learn from the team

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT




Performance is monitored regularly at both an individual and a team level, in accordance with the CDC's performance management system and control measures relevant to the position.

Performance indicators include, for example:


Learners' performance and improvement in Mathematics and Physical Science. Learners' acceptance into tertiary institutions. Feedback from learners and stakeholders on the quality of teaching and support.
