Job purpose

As the Head of Human Capital you will be a key member of the Glacier Executive team and expected to provide strategic people leadership for the organization. You will play a crucial role in creating alignment and shaping our company culture, building and retaining a dynamic workforce and ensuring HR strategy aligns with our strategic goals. You will be responsible for developing and executing human capital strategy, specifically in the areas of succession planning, talent retention and management, change and transformation management, organizational and performance management.

Key outcomes:

The following outcomes will be expected to be achieved by the Human Resource Executive:

  • Strategic development:
  • Creating the people strategy aligned to Sanlam and Retail Affluent HC Strategy and the Glacier Business strategy and objectives
  • Coaching and significant influence of senior leadership, fostering strategic business partnering, managing and directing team's execution capabilities.
  • Demonstrating sound insight into the client commercial strategy and operations and translating that into People Plan
  • Organisational Development:
  • Sound knowledge of organisational design principles and knowledge of integration of businesses (due to mergers and acquisitions) to build alignment and effective productivity.
  • Effectively able to manage a culture journey for the business and amalgamation and integration of multiple cultures.
  • Ability to translate that into a dynamic employee experience for the business.

  • Ability to facilitate a change management journey and plan for the transition of businesses into Glacier.
  • Design a Digital transformation journey in conjunction with IT and Business change; foster a culture that embraces digital transformation, assess the skills gaps and develop the organisation to achieve the ROI.
  • Employee Engagement:
  • Develop and implement initiatives that enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention. Design initiatives that support the culture and employee experience journey. Ensure that Glacier employees are educated, engaged, and actively building a culture of inclusion and belonging.
Key outcomes continued:
  • Talent Management:
  • Oversee the recruitment process, from job posting to onboarding, ensuring a diverse and qualified workforce, sound knowledge of talent and succession management. Craft talent acquisition strategies to build strong pipelines for future hiring needs. Formulate career development plans, succession planning and programs that help the company gain a competitive advantage while also fostering the professional development of the employees.
  • HR Risk Management and Employee Relations:
  • Effectively manage employee relations issues, resolve conflicts, and promote a positive work environment. Proactive risk mitigation and governance to manage immediate and reputational risks to the business.
  • Benefits Administration and Policy management:
  • Administer employee benefits processes and ensure employees have access to necessary resources. Consult on policy implementation and adherence to laws and regulations. Evaluate the effectiveness of HC processes, procedures, and hr systems and make improvements to ensure every aspect of the employee lifecycle is optimized. Oversee salary and compensation structure making sure the organization stays competitive with pay, bonuses, and benefits. Alignment of benefits for any potential mergers and acquisitions.
  • HR Analytics:
  • Utilise HR data to make informed decisions, track HR metrics, and report on HR initiatives' effectiveness to key stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Engage and advise the CEO and the executive team, on topics such as organizational design, critical key talent and skills, employee planning (strategic and operational), employee engagement, performance coaching, talent assessment, change and transformation management.
  • Develop an employee communications strategy in partnership with marketing team, forums to ensure alignment with the vision, mission, purpose, and evolving culture to ensure employees feel a powerful sense of connection.
  • People Management:
  • Manage the HR Generalist and Learning and Develop teams in Glacier including the budget.
Qualifications and experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, Business Administration, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Proven experience in HR management, with at least 10 years of Senior HR leadership experience. (preference financial services industry)
  • Experience in managing teams and budgets will be preferred
  • Strong knowledge of HR laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change and manage HR initiatives effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Proficiency in HR software and tools (SAP preferred).
  • Experience in working with an executive team would be advantageous.
