Job Description

Job Summary
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BSc. or BTech in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Registration with ECSA is advantageous
  • 8 or more years hands-on experience in E&I field installations, testing and commissioning.
  • A strong technical background to do the detailed electrical engineering designs (MV, LV, motor control, stand-by power supplies, earthing and lightning protection system design, power system analysis / protection design etc.)
  • Experience with codes and standards including SANS and IEC.
  • Must be able to read and interpret electrical engineering reports/drawings
  • Experience working in a project team, including managing budgets and schedules.
  • Experience heavy industry / petrochemical industries is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to client sites as needed.
JOB DUTIES:
  • Project Management
  • Preparing, scheduling, coordinating and monitoring of assigned engineering projects.
  • Interacting with clients, interpreting their needs and requirements.
  • Performing quality control tasks on budgets, schedules, plans, and team performance and reporting on project status.
  • Cooperating and communicating with the project director / manager and other project participants and collaborating with senior engineers to create more efficient project methods and to maintain the project's profitability.
  • Review the engineering tasks and initiating the necessary corrective actions
  • Site Investigations
  • Visits sites and prepare evaluations of existing sites
  • Preparation of conceptual designs
  • Assist with the preparation of conceptual reports which will include preliminary designs and analyses, drawings, cost estimates, project schedules and project implementation plans.
  • Develop specifications for the projects required equipment.
  • Preparation of Detailed Designs
  • Preparation of detailed designs, analyses, tender drawings, schedules of quantities, contract documents, project cost estimates, project schedules and project implementation plans
  • Prepare equipment datasheets and specifications
  • Establish field tests methods and methods for monitoring the quality of those tests.
  • Ensure the project's compliance with the applicable codes, practices, policies, performance standards and specifications.
  • Supervision of Tender Process
  • Assist with management of the Issue of tenders, preparation of notices to tenders, adjudication of tenders and preparation of tender reporting.
  • Supervision of Construction
  • Assist with handling site queries, prepare monthly payment certificates, cost report cost control and manage quality assurance
  • Visits sites during construction to confirm installations are being done as per design intent.
  • Assist with systems commissioning
  • Administration
  • Assist with preparation of standards
  • File drawings
  • Printing of drawings
  • Preparation of drawing issue slips
REMUNERATION:
  • Market-related salary (based on qualifications and experience)
