Our client is a multi-specialist investment company in various African countries with business partners
in North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. As one of the largest investment managers in South Africa, the company employs a wide range of professional and specialist investment and technical staff. Staff complement countrywide is nearly 600. They have a diverse investment offering designed to deliver on their investment promise to their clients.
They now seek a divisional executive: institutional operations to join their team. You will report to the chief operating officer.
JOB DESCRIPTION WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

• You will be responsible for overseeing and managing all operational aspects of institutional asset management;
• You will be required to ensure the smooth functioning of daily operations, enhances operational efficiency and ensures compliance with industry regulations and internal policies;
• You will be required to collaborate closely with other departments, including portfolio management, risk management, compliance, and client services, to support the firm's strategic objectives and deliver exceptional service to institutional clients;
• Operational leadership:

• You will be required to lead and manage the institutional operations team, ensuring effective execution of operational processes and procedures;
• You will be required to develop and implement operational strategies, policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and mitigate risks;
• You will be required to monitor and optimise workflows to ensure timely and accurate processing of transactions and client requests;
• Risk management and compliance:

• You will be required to ensure all operations comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies;
• You will be required to collaborate with the compliance and risk management teams to identify, assess and mitigate operational risks;
• You will be required to oversee the implementation of controls and best practices to maintain a high standard of operational integrity;
• Process improvement:

• You will be required to continuously evaluate and improve operational processes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs and improve client satisfaction;
• You will be required to implement technology solutions and automation to streamline operations and reduce manual interventions;
• You will be required to lead initiatives to improve data management, reporting and analytics capabilities;
• Client service and relationship management:

• You will be required to ensure the delivery of exceptional service to institutional clients, addressing their operational needs and resolving issues promptly;
• You will be required to collaborate with client service teams to understand client requirements and tailor operational processes to meet their needs;
• You will be required to participate in client meetings and presentations to provide operational insights and support business development efforts;
• Team development and leadership:

• You will be required to recruit, train and mentor a high-performing operations team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement;
• You will be required to set clear performance expectations, conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback and development opportunities;
• You will be required to promote a collaborative and inclusive team environment, encouraging open communication and knowledge sharing;
• Stakeholder collaboration:

• You will be required to work closely with portfolio managers, traders, compliance, risk management, IT and other departments to ensure seamless coordination of operations;
• You will be required to act as a key point of contact for external vendors and service providers, managing relationships and service agreements;
• You will be required to participate in strategic planning and decision-making processes, providing operational insights and recommendations.

CORE COMPETENCIES REQUIRED, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• You have strong understanding of investment products, trading, settlements and regulatory requirements;
• You have proven track record of leading and managing operations teams in a fast paced, dynamic environment;
• You have strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills;
• You have excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills in English, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• You have a bachelor's degree in finance, business administration CA(SA),
• You have an advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., CFA, CAIA) - this is preferred;
• You have extensive experience in institutional operations within the asset management industry;
• You are proficient in operational systems, technology platforms and data management tools.
