Summary:
The DC Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining data center (DC) systems, ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of critical infrastructure supporting data storage and processing. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and possess an NQF Level 7 qualification with ECSA registration.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Data Center Design:

• Design and plan the layout of data center facilities, including server racks, power distribution, cooling systems, and cabling infrastructure.
• Ensure optimal use of space, energy efficiency, and scalability.

2. Power Distribution:

• Design and implement electrical power distribution systems to provide reliable and redundant power to data center equipment.
• Oversee Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and backup generator systems.

3. Cooling and HVAC:

• Plan and manage cooling and HVAC systems to maintain the appropriate environmental conditions within the data center, including temperature and humidity control.

4. Network Infrastructure:

• Configure and maintain the data center's network infrastructure, including switches, routers, and fiber optic cabling.
• Ensure high-speed and reliable connectivity for servers and storage devices.

5. Security and Access Control:

• Implement security measures, access control, and surveillance systems to protect the data center against physical and cybersecurity threats.
• Monitor and respond to security incidents.

6. Equipment Installation and Maintenance:

• Oversee the installation and maintenance of server racks, server hardware, storage devices, and other data center equipment.
• Conduct routine maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting.

7. Disaster Recovery and Redundancy:

• Develop and implement disaster recovery plans to ensure data center uptime in case of unforeseen events.
• Implement redundancy and failover systems for critical components.

8. Documentation:

• Maintain comprehensive records of data center designs, configurations, changes, and maintenance activities.
• Prepare technical documentation for compliance and audit purposes.

9. Compliance and Standards:

• Ensure the data center complies with industry standards and regulations related to data storage and processing.
• Stay informed about emerging technologies and best practices in data center management.

Requirements:

• A minimum of 5 years of experience as a DC Systems Engineer.
• NQF Level 7 qualification in Data Center Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng).
• Proficiency in data center design, power distribution, cooling systems, and network infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of data center equipment and technologies.
• Familiarity with cybersecurity practices for data center security.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to data center reliability and security.
