Purpose of the Job

The Day Care CYCW is responsible to work in the life space of the child who attends Day Care. The successful applicant will be responsible for certain aspects of childcare such as teaching the child life skills holistically.


Role and Responsibilities

Morning routine

Join supervision, trainings and meetings Ensure that both the senior and the junior day care centres are clean and hygienic Record correspondence/ incident reports from the previous day Plan the afternoon programme All admin must be done in the morning and not in the afternoon. Afternoons are dedicated to the care of the children.

Afternoon Routine

Assist drivers in fetching children from school when required Ensure that children get changed out of school uniforms and wash their hands for lunch Supervise Lunch After children have had their lunch, send them to the homework room to do their homework Supervise the children in the afternoons. Be present and visible at all times Manage behaviour as the need arises. Focus on the behaviour modification programme. Working in the life space of the children in a therapeutic and professional manner - teaching life skills, behaviour management, conflict resolution Playing with the children Arranging activities for the children Observe behaviour and emotional responses of children and design programs and activities as a team, in order to meet the needs which, you have observed Draw up a holiday program as a team Ensure that children attend therapy sessions and are ready for the social workers when they are fetched. Report any unusual behaviour or incidents immediately to the Day Care manager Provide age-appropriate equipment and toys. Get rid of broken equipment and toys and monitor children caring for the equipment and packing away after use etc. Attend Day Care feedback sessions with Social Workers and parents

Home Maintenance

Ensure that playgrounds and open spaces are clean with after children's activities Report both inside and outside physical building and its equipment damages to the day care manager for logging

Administration

Process notes/observation reports Behaviour management reports Incident reports Feedback reports per child to be submitted monthly to Day Care manager Weekly planning submitted to Day Care manager every Monday Individual monthly reports typed and emailed to Day Care manager by the 25th of the month

Supervision & training

Attend in-service training as and when offered by Arcadia and other professional development training offered by Chevrah Kadisha Attend consultative individual supervisions fortnightly on scheduled appointment with Day Care manager

Specific Tasks

Parent Communication

Liaise with parents and inform transport coordinator who is coming to day care and who is absent on a daily basis.

Register

Fill in the daily register and update accordingly

First Aid

Check that First Aid boxes are always well stocked Order Items as required Maintain records of medication administered

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Any CYCW with a CYCW Degree - level 8, CYCW B-Tech Degree - level 7, CYCW Diploma - level 6 or NQF-CYCW. FETC - Level 4 qualifies for the position Proof of qualification in CYCW Proof of registration with the SACSSP This position requires 3 - 5 years' experience
