The Role
As Data Engineer, you will design, implement, and maintain the digital ecosystem that powers asset performance, remote monitoring, and data automation across the company's portfolio.
Working closely with engineering, operations, and asset management teams, you will ensure that high-quality data flows seamlessly from plant SCADA and control systems into central platforms where it can be transformed into actionable insight.
Key Responsibilities
1. Build & Maintain Centralised Monitoring & Data Systems
Design and manage a unified platform for performance, operational, and control data
Support a Central Monitoring Station (CMS) delivering real-time plant visibility
Ensure secure, reliable communication between plant-level systems (SCADA, PLC, sensors) and corporate databases
2. Lead Automation & Control System Integration
Plan and oversee automation upgrades to improve responsiveness and reliability
Coordinate SCADA, PLC, and instrumentation projects with O&M teams and vendors
Support scoping, commissioning, and QA of automation initiatives
3. Support Performance Improvement & Analytics
Analyse operational data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and optimisation opportunities
Help develop predictive maintenance and performance models
Convert data insights into engineering recommendations
4. Implement Cybersecurity & Data Integrity Protocols
Enforce cybersecurity best practices across control and automation systems
Manage data backups, redundancy, and recovery procedures
5. Develop Market & Resource Intelligence Platforms
Build datasets and dashboards for market prices, weather, irradiance, hydrology, and yield correlation
Strengthen forecasting and business intelligence capabilities
6. Partner Across Teams & External Vendors
Work with engineering, asset management, operations, and leadership teams
Coordinate with consultants, integrators, and technology partners
7. Standardise Documentation & Continuous Improvement
Create system architecture documentation, data taxonomies, and templates
Capture lessons learned and implement scalable standards
Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Electrical, Mechatronic, Computer, or Control Systems Engineering
3+ years' experience in automation, controls, or industrial data systems
Background in renewables, power plants, or industrial processes is ideal
Experience with dashboarding and performance analytics
Solid working knowledge of:
SCADA/PLC architecture & communication protocols
SQL / Python / MATLAB
Power BI, Grafana
APIs & cloud platforms (Azure IoT, AWS IoT, etc.)
Strong troubleshooting and systems-thinking mindset
