Are you a dedicated and empathetic professional who believes in the power of counseling to positively impact individuals and communities? We are searching for an exceptional Counselor to join our team and play a pivotal role in our mission to provide essential support and guidance to those in need.
Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Conduct HIV testing and provide pre- and post-test counseling to VMMC clients, ensuring thorough understanding of the process and results.
  • Raise awareness and mobilise potential clients by disseminating information about the benefits of male circumcision and its crucial role in HIV prevention.
  • Offer comprehensive follow-up counseling to VMMC clients post-receiving their HIV test results, addressing concerns, providing support, and ensuring clear understanding of implications.
  • Facilitate immediate linkage to appropriate care and treatment services for HIV-positive clients, ensuring a seamless transition into the healthcare system.
  • Provide counseling emphasising the importance of sustained safe sexual practices post-circumcision to prevent behavioral disinhibition and curb the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
  • Advocate condom usage as a crucial component of safe practices; provide education on correct condom usage and distribute condoms to clients as necessary.
  • Ensure potential clients fully comprehend the circumcision procedure, associated risks, and benefits before obtaining informed consent.
  • Safeguard and maintain accountability for HIV test kits, ensuring proper storage, usage, and meticulous record-keeping in accordance with relevant guidelines.
  • Implement quality control measures as per NHLS (National Health Laboratory Service) guidelines to guarantee the accuracy and reliability of HIV testing results.
  • Ensure the security, proper utilisation, and inventory management of all relevant supplies, equipment, and resources in alignment with inventory lists.
  • Foster a positive work environment that encourages growth, collaboration, and teamwork.
Requirements:
  • Possession of a 10-day Certificate in HIV Counseling and Testing.
  • A Certificate in Male Circumcision Counseling.
  • Minimum of 1 years practical experience in HIV counseling within a busy clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated mentorship, counseling, and effective communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to selected health facilities and outreach locations.
  • Commitment to collaborating with diverse teams.
  • Proficiency in speaking local languages for effective communication.
