Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Technician/Engineer to support the installation, calibration, commissioning, and maintenance of all C&I systems across our mining and plant operations. The role includes significant work on conveyor belt systems, plant automation and process instrumentation. The successful candidate must be able to read, interpret, and implement C&I drawings, including loop diagrams, P&IDs, cable schedules and panel wiring diagrams.

Key Responsibilities

Install, repair and maintain instrumentation on conveyor belt systems (pull-key switches, belt drift switches, speed sensors, rip detection, scale systems, etc.). Calibrate and maintain sensors, transmitters, gauges, flow meters, pressure instruments, temperature devices and vibration sensors. Install and terminate instrumentation cabling, junction boxes, marshalling panels and field equipment. Perform loop checks, functional testing and assist with commissioning of automation and control systems. Conduct advanced fault-finding on PLC systems, SCADA, VSDs, MCCs, and plant control networks. Read and interpret C&I drawings: Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) Control loop drawings Instrument location plans Cable block diagrams & cable schedules Panel and wiring diagrams Network/communication architecture Troubleshoot communication protocols (Profibus, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, 4-20mA, HART). Support maintenance activities and planned shutdowns on conveyor systems and plant areas. Perform preventative maintenance according to maintenance schedules. Ensure compliance with SANS standards and mine SHEQ requirements. Complete job cards, inspection reports, calibration documentation and handover packs.
Minimum Requirements

National Diploma / N6 / Trade Test in Instrumentation or Control & Instrumentation. 3-5 years experience in mining, heavy industrial or plant environment. Strong experience with C&I systems on conveyor belts and material-handling equipment. Ability to confidently read and interpret C&I drawings , MCC panels, protection devices and control circuits.and implement accordingly. Proficiency with PLCs and SCADA systems (Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider, ABB). Solid knowledge of VSDs
