Job Description

Purpose:



The Commis Chef supports the kitchen by performing routine kitchen tasks, including food preparation, cleaning, plating and maintaining hygiene standards. The role ensures that the kitchen operates efficiently by assisting with ingredient preparation, maintaining inventory levels, and upholding service standard and food safety regulations.

Key responsibilities:



Food Preparation:

Assist with basic food prep tasks like portion control, assembling dishes, basic cooking, plating and other preparatory work as directed by the Head Cook. Ensure ingredients are prepped according to the kitchen's specific standards and procedures.

Cleaning & Hygiene:

Maintain cleanliness of kitchen surfaces, equipment, utensils, sanitizing workstations, ensuring that the kitchen meets all food safety and hygiene regulations and occasionally assisting with washing dishes,. Dispose of waste and recyclables according to kitchen protocols.

Inventory Management:

Assist with monitoring all kitchen inventory, by performing weekly stock takes. Restock kitchen supplies as needed and alert the Head Cook or Clubhouse Manager when inventory is low. Ensure that food items are properly stored and labelled according to health guidelines.

Support Kitchen Operations:

Assist in the correct plating and presentation of meals during busy service periods or in the absence of other chefs. Help with deliveries by checking that orders are correctly delivered (quantities and standard) as well as organizing and unpacking orders daily. Follow kitchen policies and procedures to ensure smooth daily operations.

Health & Safety:

Adhere to health and safety standards, including proper food handling techniques, cleaning protocols, and personal hygiene.

Skills:



Strong attention to detail. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of basic food prep, safety procedures (training will be provided). Food handling knowledge (proper storage, labelling, dating, temperature control, and preventing cross-contamination) Good communication skills to work efficiently with the kitchen team.

Qualifications:



High school diploma or equivalent required, and diploma in professional cookery is preffered.

Experience:



Minimum

2 years

of previous kitchen experience. Willingness to learn and follow instructions is essential.
