Job Summary Our client, a Global Leader in the Petrochemical industry is seeking to URGENTLY appoint a dynamic Commercial Manager to join their Cape Town, Western Cape Refinery team. MAIN PURPOSE FOR THE ROLE : To occupy a pivotal role in driving business growth and success. To lead a cross-functional team of 12 consummate professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure the teams success in achieving their goals. To demonstrate strong leadership skills, backed by your ability to drive results and collaborate cross-functionally, to drive Team success in this role. To oversee various commercial processes such as optimisation, strategic planning, business improvement plans, product planning and scheduling, and driving strategic integration of the Cape Town based operation with major international shareholders. KEY COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS: At minimum a BSc Chemical Engineering A Commercial qualification such as an MBA or MBL will prove an added advantage. At least 10+ years experience in the oil & gas industry (specifically petrochemical) International experience will also be a distinct advantage. KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Managing the transition from a Hierarchical structure led to Flat structure, "Centre-led" to a lateral "BU and SBU Independent model" with all the relevant aspects, including technology, standards, and management systems. Managing the strategic planning process, ensuring all environmental considerations and refinery strengths and weaknesses are comprehended and modelled via a Linear Program (LP), and presenting information appropriately to management and staff. Managing the refinerys production planning and scheduling process, including short, medium, and long-term planning stages. Managing the refinery Governance Model using the Management System Process (MSP) monthly, including tracking progress against plan, preparing a variance analysis of monthly refinery earnings, and collating and reporting various refinery KPIs. Managing the annual refinery business planning process, developing, and delivering key deliverables on time, producing the refinerys annualized scorecard, and tracking performance against that scorecard. Managing all refinery blending and scheduling activities, as well as refinery accounting activities. Managing adherence to Management of Change (MOC) processes when new crudes are to be processed and/or the crude diet to the refinery is to be changed. Maintaining a field presence. Leading the development and tracking of the refinerys Business Improvement Plan to maximize competitive potential and optimize costs. Leading all development work and studies to identify optimal pathways for future capital investment plans that impact refinery sustainability. Supporting the development of economic feasibility and strategic alignment information on key refinery capital investment and operational improvement projects. Supporting strategic projects as required, such as the Sub Planning Strategic Committee and Regional Assessments. Recording all relevant performance data and developing realistic 5 year, 10 year, and 15-year strategic models for key metrics. Ensuring refinery compliance requirements are met, including training staff in information protection and adherence to compliance procedures and guidelines. Ensuring high-value product make is optimized at all planning stages and effectively implemented, while ensuring Cape Town planning tools are consistent with other Energy facilities and users are adequately trained. Ensuring all reporting documents are submitted on time, including the computation and variance analysis of monthly refinery earnings and the collation and reporting of various refinery KPIs. Ensuring all relevant refinery benchmarking studies are staffed and data submitted on time. Driving the strategic positioning of the refinery and long-term profitability. Developing staff using appropriate Energy HR processes and tools, providing frequent feedback on achievements, and setting expectations and targets for individual reports via the Performance Management Process (PMP). Developing and controlling BUs staffing and budgetary requirements for the Commercial Business Unit. Completing the integration with the new shareholder, developing, executing, and tracking integration plans. Building the refinerys institutional capacity for early-phase development work on large capital projects as an independent refinery with limited corporate manufacturing support and driving final investment decisions Being accountable for refinery product stewardship and coaching and mentoring refinery shift coordinators in optimization skills Being accountable for all financial internal and external audits, managing refinery transfer pricing and signoff with the Supply Optimization Group.
