Our client is a global and rapidly expanding International Developer and EPC Contractor specializing in utility-scale Solar PV and Energy Storage (BESS) solutions who delivers high-quality, sustainable energy projects across Europe, Africa, and the Americas. They combine technical excellence with innovation, focusing on smart, scalable technologies to accelerate the global transition to renewable energy. We are seeking a highly experienced and meticulous Senior Civil Engineer to lead all civil and structural engineering activities for utility-scale renewable energy projects, including associated BESS or hybrid systems. This critical role ensures the safe, cost-effective, and timely execution of civil works from the early development phase through to construction and commissioning. The position offers flexible placement in either the United Kingdom or South Africa.
Key Responsibilities

• Design Leadership: Lead the civil/structural design for large-scale PV plants, including site layouts, foundations, access roads, drainage, bulk earthworks, and structural supports.
• Technical Optimization: Optimize site layouts to strategically balance cut-and-fill volumes, minimize civil works costs, and effectively mitigate environmental impacts.
• Review & Approval: Critically review and approve all third-party documents, including geotechnical, hydrological, and topographical studies, contractor designs, method statements, and shop drawings.
• Compliance & Permitting: Ensure all designs and works adhere to stringent international and local codes, standards, and permitting requirements across diverse regulatory environments.
• Construction Oversight: Conduct regular site inspections and proactively resolve complex civil/structural engineering issues that arise during the construction phase.
• Project Integration: Act as the primary interface with the electrical and mechanical engineering teams to ensure fully coordinated and integrated designs.
• Support: Support Project Managers by contributing to accurate scheduling, cost estimating, and risk management.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Professional Status: Professional registration (e.g., Chartered or Professional Engineer) is highly beneficial.
• Experience: Proven experience in civil engineering for utility-scale solar PV or large infrastructure projects, with specialized expertise in bulk earthworks and stormwater management.
• Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in relevant software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar).
• Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to adapt designs and practices to different international and local regulatory environments.
• Travel: Willingness to travel locally and internationally for site visits and project support.
• Communication: Strong communication skills in English (spoken and written); proficiency in French is a plus.
