Role Purpose/Business Unit:
The Chapter Lead CVM Insights and Quantitative Analytics is a tenured functional expert who is responsible for managing the performance and development of the Squad members belonging to the Chapter and champions functional excellence. This role coordinates knowledge sharing and improved interactions between roles within its own Chapter, similar Chapters within the Tribe and across Tribes respectively. Responsible for owning, leading, and driving the relevant experts / specialists sitting across squads / scrums. As the most senior professional, of a chapter, the Chapter Lead is tasked with developing the skills of all chapter members; has line management responsibilities and helps stimulate innovation, ensuring industry trends are being reflected within Vodacom.
As the chapter lead for CVM insights and analytics you should be experienced with and passionate about using data to drive strategy, product and campaign recommendations. You are able to both engage with senior leaders to design well-constructed analyses and work cross-functionally with analysts, product managers and the operations team to effectively deliver actionable results.
You should be able to communicate as effectively in delivering complex data-driven findings with commercial managers as you are in discussing and implementing machine-learning specifications to maximise customer lifetime value within the prepaid space.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Take the data steward ownership for the data sources, data quality and management for the consumer business unit of Vodacom.
  • Design and manage implementations of critical data architecture to support different real-time and machine learning platforms within Vodacom CVM.
  • Manage the CVM insights and analytics chapter consisting of more than 10 data scientists and experts which are required to deliver as a chapter on the below business outcomes.
  • Research and develop methods for measuring and analysing direct marketing campaign impact on customer behaviour as well as revenue.
  • Research and implement new algorithms and methods for optimizing targeting, campaign impact and incremental revenue lift.
  • Implement complex modelling algorithms to estimate customer response.
  • Lead investigations into multiple streams of CVM inbound and outbound campaigns.
Core competencies, knowledge, and experience:
  • Telecommunications experience will be an advantage.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills are essential.
  • Advanced SQL query writing skills, python/R skills essential.
  • A key affinity to learn new techniques, push the analytical/modelling envelope as well as teach others.
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
  • Relevant 3-year Degree in statistics, mathematics, engineering, informatics and/or related.
  • Hons or MS/PhD in statistics or related (Mathematics, machine learning etc) advantageous.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, especially in areas such as big data, machine learning, statistical modelling and analysis.
  • Proven track record of people leadership or managing people/resources and teams in a complex cross functional team structure.
