Job Description

The Business Intelligence (BI) Development Manager is responsible for managing, developing, and maintaining a centralised data environment that supports Business Intelligence across the organisation. This role ensures the availability, stability, and accuracy of BI systems and reports, enabling data-driven decision-making and supporting business performance improvement.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS



1. System Development and Management



Design, develop, and maintain a single, automated platform for all Business Intelligence across the organisation.

Analyse business requirements to ensure the BI database platform is functional, stable, and aligned with organisational needs.

Ensure system availability and reliability by implementing effective monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting processes.

Equip operational teams to utilise BI systems effectively, including training on interpretation of insights and system functionality.

Document all system processes, policies, and procedures to ensure standardisation across the organisation.

Maintain data governance practices supporting data accuracy, consistency, and security.

2. Reporting



Develop, automate, and maintain performance reports for the organisation and business units.

Create BI reports and dashboards to support informed decision-making and strategic planning.

Collaborate with business units to interpret data, analyse trends, and support report development needs.

Research, evaluate, and recommend business intelligence tools and technologies that support organisational objectives.

Implement best practices in report design, automation, and data visualisation.

Provide BI support and guidance to enable continuous improvement and operational efficiency.

3. People Management



Leadership



Lead by example, demonstrating organisational values and fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.

Ensure the department is adequately resourced and workloads are effectively distributed.

Provide coaching and guidance to teams to minimise errors and enhance performance.

Communicate strategic objectives clearly and ensure departmental alignment with company goals.

Build and maintain strong working relationships through effective communication.

Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, governance standards, and relevant legislation.

Attraction & Selection



Identify staffing needs and collaborate with HR and management to initiate recruitment processes.

Select and place candidates in line with approved recruitment and selection frameworks.

Retention



Develop and empower team members, recognising and rewarding high performance.

Create a motivating environment that supports staff retention and engagement.

Training & Development



Support upskilling through mentoring, coaching, leadership, and continuous performance improvement.

Implement and monitor Individual Development Plans (IDPs) to ensure skill growth and career development.

Career Pathing & Succession Planning



Identify and manage talent within the department, ensuring succession pipelines are developed and maintained.

Performance Management



Set clear quantitative and qualitative performance objectives for direct reports.

Conduct bi-annual performance reviews and ensure performance objectives remain aligned with organisational needs.

COMPETENCIES



Knowledge



B.Comm Information Systems or BSc Computer Science

5-8 years' Business Intelligence design experience, including:

o 2 years' data warehousing automation experience

o 3 years' SQL experience
