Laundry Attendant - Job Specification

Position: Laundry Attendant

Department: Housekeeping

Reports To: Head Housekeeper / Hotel Manager

Location: Small Boutique Hotel

1. Role Overview

The Laundry Attendant is responsible for ensuring all hotel linens, guest garments, uniforms, and soft furnishings are cleaned, maintained, and presented to the highest luxury-boutique standard. This role supports housekeeping operations, contributes to guest satisfaction, and maintains the smooth flow of daily laundry functions.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Daily Laundry Operations

Sort, wash, dry, iron, press, fold, and store all hotel linens and towels. Handle guest laundry, dry cleaning, and pressing with extreme care and attention to detail. Ensure correct washing programs, temperatures, and chemicals are used for each fabric. Pre-treat stains and handle delicate items according to care instructions. Maintain consistent quality standards: crisp linens, immaculate whites, stain-free towels.
B. Linen Room Management

Keep linen room neat, organised, and fully stocked. Monitor linen par levels; report shortages or damage immediately. Rotate stock to ensure even wear and tear. Track damaged, lost, or stained items and maintain a logbook.
C. Guest Service

Package and deliver guest laundry efficiently and discreetly. Follow guest preferences and special requests meticulously. Maintain complete confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
D. Equipment & Safety

Safely operate washers, dryers, irons, steamers, and pressing equipment. Perform daily equipment checks and report faults immediately. Maintain a clean, sanitary laundry area at all times. Follow all chemical-handling and health-and-safety guidelines.
E. Team Support

Assist Housekeeping team with linen distribution to rooms and public areas. Support with stripping and making beds during peak occupancy if required. Collaborate with housekeeping staff to ensure smooth shift handovers.
3. Skills & Competencies

Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards. Fast, organised, and able to work independently. Basic understanding of fabric care, stain removal, and laundry machinery. Good time-management skills. Discreet and respectful, especially when handling guest items. Physically fit and able to lift, bend, and stand for long periods.
4. Experience & Qualifications

Prior experience in a hotel or commercial laundry preferred (boutique/luxury experience a plus). Knowledge of detergents, fabric types, and laundry processes. Ability to read care labels and follow instructions.
5. Working Hours & Conditions

Shift-based, including weekends and public holidays, depending on hotel occupancy. Fast-paced environment with high expectations for quality. Exposure to heat, steam, and cleaning agents.
6. Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Quality and consistency of washed/pressed items. Timeliness of laundry turnaround. Accuracy in sorting and stain management. Linen par levels maintained without shortages. Guest satisfaction with laundry services. Cleanliness and organisation of laundry area.
