Role Overview
WNDYR is seeking an experienced BI Developer to design, build, and deploy Power BI reporting solutions for a maritime towing company's new Azure-based data platform. You will translate business requirements into interactive dashboards and reports that provide executives with actionable insights into customer performance, operations, vessel activity, and financial metrics.
Responsibilities
Semantic Model Development
Design and implement Power BI semantic model connecting to Azure PostgreSQL
Build relationships across star schema (fact and dimension tables)
Implement time intelligence, hierarchies, and calculated columns
Optimize model for query performance and efficient refresh
DAX Development
Author DAX measures for KPIs including revenue, job counts, YoY comparisons, and discount analysis
Create dynamic calculations that respond to user filter selections
Implement complex business logic for customer matching confidence scores
Document measure definitions and calculation methodology
Report Development
Build 5 interactive Power BI reports: Customer, Tug Jobs, Vessels, Discount Analysis, and Billing Assistance
Design intuitive layouts optimized for web, tablet, and mobile consumption
Implement drill-down navigation, cross-filtering, and conditional formatting
Create visually compelling dashboards aligned with client branding
Collaboration & Delivery
Partner with Experience Strategist on report wireframes and UX
Work with Data Engineer to validate data quality and troubleshoot pipeline issues
Participate in UAT, incorporating user feedback into report refinements
Support Change Lead with training materials and user documentation
Required Skills & Experience
Power BI Expertise (5+ years)
Semantic model design and optimization
Advanced DAX proficiency (time intelligence, iterators, context transition)
Report and dashboard development
Power BI Service administration and workspace management
Data Modeling
Star schema and dimensional modeling concepts
Experience connecting Power BI to relational databases (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar)
Understanding of data warehousing principles
Technical Skills
SQL proficiency for data validation and troubleshooting
Experience with DirectQuery and Import modes
Familiarity with row-level security (RLS) implementation
Mobile layout optimization
Soft Skills
Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
Clear communication with non-technical stakeholders
Attention to detail and commitment to quality
Self-directed with ability to meet deadlines in a consulting environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in maritime, logistics, or transportation industries
Familiarity with Azure ecosystem (Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Functions, Blob Storage)
Power BI certification (PL-300 or equivalent)
Experience with dbt or other analytics engineering tools
Prior consulting or client-facing delivery experience
Engagement Context
You will join a small, collaborative team delivering a greenfield data platform for a 14-year Sage 300 environment with no existing BI capabilities. The client has 12 executive users who need web and mobile access to operational insights. This is a high-visibility engagement with potential for Phase 2 expansion into billing automation.
