The Barista/All-Rounder is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, preparing high-quality beverages and food items, and supporting daily store operations. This role ensures that guests experience the warm, welcoming, and professional environment that defines Schoon.
2. Key Responsibilities Barista Duties
Prepare and serve all coffee and beverage menu items to Schoon standards.
Maintain consistency in espresso extraction, milk texturing, and drink presentation.
Monitor coffee bean usage, grinder settings, and equipment performance.
Maintain a clean, organized, and hygienic coffee station.
Assist with seasonal drink development or testing when required.
Customer Service
Greet customers warmly and deliver an exceptional guest experience.
Take orders accurately and process payments via POS system.
Handle customer queries, complaints, and special requests professionally.
Up sell and communicate product offerings (pastries, specials, retail items).
Food Handling & Front-of-House Support
Assist with serving bakery items, plating simple dishes, and food preparation where needed.
Ensure display counters are replenished, fresh, and visually appealing.
Follow all food safety and hygiene standards consistently.
Support with cleaning tasks, clearing tables, and maintaining FOH cleanliness.
General All-Rounder Duties
Assist with opening and closing procedures.
Receive and pack stock deliveries; rotate stock using FIFO.
Help maintain overall store standards--cleaning, dishes, restocking, light prep.
Support kitchen or bakery teams during busy periods when required.
3. Skills & Attributes
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
Passion for coffee, food, and hospitality.
Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours (weekends/holidays).
Team player with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Basic knowledge of coffee extraction and milk texturing (training provided if needed).
4. Minimum Requirements
1-2 years experience in a cafe/barista role (preferred but not essential).
Familiarity with espresso machines, grinders, and cafe workflow.
Food safety knowledge or certificate (advantage).
Ability to stand for extended periods.
5. Performance Expectations
Maintain beverage preparation consistency above 95%.
Deliver customer satisfaction scores above internal benchmarks.
Follow SOPs for coffee, service, cleaning, and cash handling.
Contribute to meeting store sales and operational targets.
