Role: Virtualisation Engineer
Location: Remote (need to be based in Gauteng to allow for social get-togethers)
Our client is a successful Cloud technologies company who are looking for a Virtualisation Engineer who will support the setup, maintenance, and performance of the company's virtualisation, storage, and backup environments. This includes assisting in deploying, monitoring, and troubleshooting virtualised infrastructure, ensuring stability and availability across Linux and Windows systems. You would be working in a collaborative and dynamic team supported by a fabulous management team. There is also lots of opportunity for growth and development!
Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of virtualisation platforms (e.g., VMware, KVM, Hyper-V).
• Support the deployment and management of storage systems, ensuring availability and performance.
• Monitor and maintain the health and performance of virtual machines, storage, and backup systems.
• Perform basic troubleshooting and escalate complex issues to senior engineers when required.
• Support backup and recovery operations using tools such as Veeam.
• Collaborate with senior engineers on infrastructure projects and upgrades.
• Maintain accurate documentation of systems, configurations, and processes.
• Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing activities.
• Assist with network configuration and connectivity within virtual environments.
• Ensure all changes follow internal procedures and best practices for security and reliability

Minimum Requirements:

• National Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Networking qualifications CCNA/ N+ (or JNCIA/HCNA)
• Virtualization certifications: VCP or RHCSE - Desirable but not essential
• 2-5 years' experience supporting IT infrastructure, including Linux and/or Windows servers.
• Hands-on experience with virtualisation technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM, or Hyper-V).
• Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, DNS, etc.).
• Exposure to storage systems (SAN/NAS) and backup solutions such as Veeam.
• Familiarity with open-source virtualisation platforms or tools.
• Scripting or automation experience with PowerShell or Python advantageous.
