The Ventilation Manager is required to ensure the design and implementation of the Ventilation system at Venetia Underground Operations and ensure healthy and safe working environment.





-This role's responsibility is to apply ventilation expertise to provide review, strategic direction, analysis and set business technical and operating standards for Ventilation. Set effective ventilation solutions through the mine life cycle to ensure the mine is not ventilation constrained, is compliant to all requirements and provides air standards to meet the needs of mine workers working underground - ensuring our workers are only exposed to acceptable conditions and standards in our mines. System design and operation are built on a foundation of Safety, Efficiency, Standards and Cost.


Key Tasks



Apply underground mining ventilation skills to the Venetia underground mine technical and operational teams, enhancing system design, vent standards and overall mine performance. Promote a 'Safety by Design' approach to Ventilation design and management. Develop, implement and provide execution tactics for the underground ventilation system in accordance with the business plan to enable safe and sustainable mine execution against targets. Ensure Venetia UG mine is supported by modelled and optimized ventilation strategies to deliver primary and secondary ventilation system solutions to support executable designs and efficient mine operations. Develop ventilation technical and operational capability within the ventilation, technical and operations groups to ensure ventilation knowledge and understanding develops within the mining teams. Establish systems and processes to ensure systematic and disciplined approach to routine measurement and health checks of primary and secondary ventilation systems (and mine refrigeration). Ensure ventilation activities and work are planned, scheduled and adequately resourced to support safe, sustainable and efficient mining operations Ensure legal compliance and the development, review, implementation & maintenance of ventilation and occupational hygiene risk assessments, mandatory code of practices, standards and procedures in line with site, group and legal Occupational Health and Safety requirements. Represent Venetia mine at internal and external forums, audits, and inspections, including DMPR engagements Ensure compliance with relevant legal, environmental, occupational health and safety and risk management standards and leading practice Interpret corporate strategy & guideline into systems, procedures, and standards. Ensure accurate budgeting and management of CAPEX and OPEX for Ventilation Departmental requirements and management of resources to deliver section business targets. Establish reporting databases to manage status and performance of ventilation assets. Continuously identify and prioritise opportunities for improvement or to de-risk ventilation systems, maximizing value and performance enhancement to Venetia mine. Ensure systems of measure, review and reporting are embedded to provide effective management processes to identify non-compliance or trends that require escalation to management or reporting to stakeholders. Maintain effective links to Anglo ventilation group, industry regulators & educators, ventilation suppliers to ensure you are well connected in the underground mining network.

Qualifications

-Formal qualification in Mining Engineering or relevant discipline Minimum requirement: Certificate in Mine Environmental Control Member of Professional Body - Mine Ventilation Society of South Africa, Desired: Masters and /or additional qualifications in relevant discipline.

Experience required:



Demonstrated application of academic qualifications through experience working in the field of Ventilation Engineering. Experience in design and review of mine ventilation and refrigeration systems in large, mechanized mines 8- 10 year's Practical experience in the Ventilation Engineering field. Practical experience of at least 5 years as legally MHSA 12.1 appointee At least 3 years at managerial position in the ventilation and occupational hygiene field 5 years' experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of management systems and database formulation. Working knowledge through training or experience of mine ventilation and refrigeration simulation program (Vuma/Ventsim) and experience in mine design programs (Deswik/Microstation)

Role-specific knowledge:



Considered an experienced technical and operational specialist in the underground mine ventilation field. Track record of leading ideas generation; translating these into practical initiatives to be implemented and demonstration of successful execution and delivery of underground mine ventilation strategies for individual mine operations. Has overseen project development, sharing of best practice and developing technical capability of mining personnel. Expertise in practical underground mine design. Demonstrated ability to consider short, medium and long term consequences of proposed changes to processes. Demonstrated success in the implementation of process improvements across multiple work streams in a mining operation.
