Underwriting Assistant
Area: Western Cape, working fully remotely for an UK company.
Salary: R30K - R40K CTC p.m. (depending on experience)
Company Overview:
My client is a high-growth Financial Services scale-up that launched in 2017. Backed by a combination of private equity, venture capital, and a specialist family office, the company has successfully secured significant debt investment to support rapid expansion. It offers innovative lending solutions within the legal and probate sectors, both of which represent substantial and growing markets.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive Loan Management team with significant scope for personal and professional development.
Key responsibilities:

• Managing the collation of applications for funding and compiling supporting documentation for review by the underwriting team.
• Undertaking initial due diligence on complex financial matters and prospective borrowers.
• Compiling schedules of assets.
• Communicating with solicitors and prospective borrowers both over email and on the telephone, to ensure receipt of all information required for underwriting.
• Ensuring the companys compliance policies e.g. AML & data protection etc are adhered to in line with FCA regulations
• Updating senior members of the team on a regular basis on the status of applications across a large number of cases in the application workflow.
• Keeping borrowers and solicitors updated about the status of applications
• Preparing loan documentation
• Collating executed documentation

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak to solicitors at large law firms and the ability to present to senior management.
• Ability to communicate appropriately with potentially vulnerable clients
• Ability to multitask and prioritise effectively
• Ability to manage a large number of cases
• Ability to work under pressure and handle variable workloads
• Ability to become a subject matter expert in probate & family law funding, with a view to training to underwrite loans in full
• A can-do attitude and someone who thrives in a busy and fast paced environment
• Min of 2 years experience, ideally within complex lending, financial services or the legal sector
• Experience in litigation is helpful, but not a prerequisite
• Experience of UK FCA regulations is helpful, but not a prerequisite
• Adaptable to change and being able to pivot in a fast-moving environment
