Underwriting AssistantJob Location: Remote to start, potential for hybrid (Foreshore) three days in-office, two days remoteWorking Hours: 9:00 AM 6:30 PM SA TimeReporting to: Risk ManagerSalary: R18,000 - R30,000 per month (dependent on experience)About the RoleWe are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Underwriting Assistant to join our dynamic team. This role is critical in supporting the underwriting team by managing loan applications, conducting initial due diligence, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have strong multitasking abilities, excellent communication skills, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the collation of funding applications and compile supporting documentation for underwriting review.
  • Conduct initial due diligence on complex financial matters and prospective borrowers.
  • Compile schedules of assets and maintain accurate records.
  • Communicate professionally with solicitors and borrowers via email and telephone to ensure all required documentation is received.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory policies, including AML and data protection, in line with FCA regulations.
  • Provide regular updates to senior team members regarding application statuses across multiple cases.
  • Keep borrowers and solicitors informed on the progress of their applications.
  • Prepare and collate executed loan documentation.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with solicitors and senior management.
  • High emotional intelligence and the ability to communicate appropriately with potentially vulnerable clients.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a large number of cases effectively.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle variable workloads in a fast-paced environment.
  • Analytical mindset with a willingness to develop expertise in probate and family law funding, with the potential to train in loan underwriting.
  • Self-starter with a proactive attitude who thrives in a busy and evolving business setting.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum of two years experience in financial services, complex lending, or the legal sector.
  • Exposure to litigation or knowledge of UK FCA regulations is beneficial but not required.
  • Background in law is helpful, though not essential strong case management skills are key.
  • Ability to adapt to change and pivot effectively in a dynamic environment.
