Job Description


A contract opportunity exists for a Senior Underground Mine Development Project Planner in Mali on a rotation basis. The Underground Mine Development Project Planner is responsible for overseeing the planning and coordination of all activities related to the development of underground mining project. This role involves creating comprehensive project plans, managing timelines, and ensuring the efficient utilization of resources to achieve project objectives. The incumbent will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the smooth execution of the project while adhering to safety and environmental regulations. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop a comprehensive project plan for underground mine development project, including defining project scope, objectives, timelines, sequencing, durations, resources; analyse resource histograms, S curves, etc. Recommend and make changes where required, communicate to all involved and affected.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to assess the feasibility of plans and ensure alignment with established guidelines and regulations.
  • Create and manage detailed schedules for excavation, tunneling, and other construction activities, ensuring that timelines are met and resources are optimized.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement necessary adjustments to ensure project success.
  • Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure timely delivery of necessary equipment and materials required for project execution.
  • Provide regular reports to senior management on project status, including key milestones, budget updates, and any potential issues that may affect project timelines or objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency enhancement in underground mining operations, and implement best practices to optimize project performance.
  • Ensure there are sufficient resources during project
  • Ensure that the organisation adheres to project schedule as developed,
  • Ensure that project schedule is updated regularly, and measure schedule compliance.
  • Where possible use effective and efficient schedule updating techniques
    • Ensure that all key KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) are tracked and reported to all relevant personnel
    • Provide feedback of schedule performance to all stakeholders, including management, execution teams, contractors, service providers, etc.
  • Reporting
    • Review/ develop new reporting that will be used during project, including schedule visual progress tracking
    • Ensure data is captured correctly to ensure information disseminated is correct and accurate
    • Review trends and performance vs plan and identify reasons for poor performance
    • Monitor job completion rates and report trends to the Project management team.
    • Make recommendation for continuous improvement
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Ensure safety, legal and company policies are adhered to.
  • Implementation a culture of best practice
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
  • At least 8 - 10 years' experience in project planning and executing Underground Mining Development projects
Qualifications:
  • Completed a trade test as a Fitter, Millwright, Electrical with a recognized institution ideal.
  • National Diploma or equivalent qualification in Mechanical- or Electrical Engineering
Additional Requirements:
  • Experience with planning software such as MS Projects and Primavera
  • Knowledge of MS Projects and MS Excel
  • English speaking
  • Strong knowledge of mining regulations, safety standards, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate and mitigate potential risks.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership qualities and the ability to mentor and guide team members effectively.
  • High level of adaptability and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and challenging work environment.
  • Attention to detail and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality work within designated timelines and budgets.
