The Treasury Assistant supports day-to-day cash and treasury operations, ensuring accurate cash management, timely payments, robust bank reconciliations, and effective liquidity reporting across the business. The role helps maintain strong internal controls, supports month-end close activities, and contributes to continuous process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Perform daily cash positioning: monitor bank balances, allocate cash, and prepare short-term cash forecasts.
Process payments (e.g., BACS, Faster Payments, SEPA, SWIFT) and receipts; ensure appropriate approvals and segregation of duties.
Prepare and post treasury journals (interest, fees, FX gains/losses) and maintain accurate cashbooks.
Complete daily/weekly bank reconciliations and resolve open items promptly.
Assist with month-end close: cash reporting, variance analysis, and treasury schedules.
Support multi-currency activities, including FX settlements and maintaining exchange rates in finance systems.
Maintain bank account mandates, signatories, and KYC documentation; liaise with banking partners.
Support cash flow forecasting (weekly/12-week/rolling) and working capital reporting.
Assist with administration of the Treasury Management System (if applicable) and ERP (supplier banking data, controls).
Help prepare materials for internal/external audit and ensure compliance with treasury policies and controls.
Contribute to process improvement initiatives, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and strong control environment.
Skills & Experience
Experience in a treasury, cash management, or accounts/finance assistant role (6-24 months desirable).
Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups/XLOOKUP, basic modelling); comfortable with large data sets.
Familiarity with UK/International banking instruments and payment methods (BACS, Faster Payments, SEPA, SWIFT).
Exposure to multi-currency environments and basic understanding of FX concepts.
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and strong numerical skills.
Clear, professional communication and stakeholder management; able to work to deadlines.
Integrity and discretion when handling confidential information.
Qualifications
AAT Level 3/4 (or working towards) preferred; or part-qualified ACCA/CIMA an advantage.
Treasury qualifications (e.g., ACT Certificate in Treasury Fundamentals) beneficial but not essential.
Desirable
Experience with a Treasury Management System (e.g., Kyriba, SAP TRM) or banking portals.
Knowledge of internal controls frameworks and audit requirements.
Prior exposure to working capital optimisation (collections, supplier terms) advantageous.
