Purpose of Position

The Terminal Manager is responsible for running our complex and challenging terminal. You manage the terminal organisation (employees, processes and assets), aiming to achieve excellent safety and service performance in the short and long term.

The Terminal Manager is a key business critical position within Vopak. The job therefore demands excellence in areas such as people leadership, motivation and engagement, stakeholder management change implementation and team management.

Tasks & Responsibilities

SAFETY & SUSTAINABILITY

• Ensure the safe execution of all terminal activities and work on continuous improvement of the safety performance around hardware, software and mindware
• As the appointed OSH act 16.2 and NKP owner on the Cutler board, remains accountable for maintaining legal compliance of the terminal and acting on deviations thereof
• Always acts as custodian of Vopak standards related to terminal health, operation, safety and maintenance.
• Makes documented risk based decisions by using Vopak risk processes
• Develop and maintain a strong culture of Vopak values and fundamentals being displayed in daily behaviour of staff, contractors, 3rd parties and visitors at the terminal
• Seen and the ambassador of xe2x80x9cSafety Firstxe2x80x9d in terminal
• Creates a proactive safety culture by encouraging the use of leading indicators and a xe2x80x9cspeak upxe2x80x9d/xe2x80x9d stop work authorityxe2x80x9d culture
• Ensures Control of works systems and processes remain complaint and aligned to best available solutions in Vopak
• Works with Sustainability officer to ensure that terminal contributes to sustainability targets via capex plans, terminal practices and stakeholder support

STRATEGY

• Develop and implement the operational strategy, plans and budgets in line with the business strategy of Vopak SA, actively steer the operational business performance according to these plans and budgets .i.e. KPI monitoring
• Contributes to the continuous development, improvement and implementation of operational policies and systems for Vopak SA
• Initiate, monitor and be actively involved in M&R and sustaining Capex programs in close cooperation with the Internals customer (Direct Report) and the technical department to guarantee optimal and safe use of assets, now and in the future
• Contributes to the Vopak SA strategy development geared towards achieving the full potential of the terminal highly integrated in the supply chain by continuously improving the terminal and encouraging the teams to make improvements over time
• Ensures terminal has a 5 year asset management roadmap aligned to the Vopak blueprint

• Drives talent management across teams by ensuring development plans are initiated and acted on. Create opportunities for people to upskill within teams and grow
• Ensure a strong training and development program, resulting in filled pipeline for succession within organisation and closing competency gap
• Initiates, supports and drives special programs targeted at employee growth

SERVICE DELIVERY & OPERATIONS EXCELLENCE

• Ensures an effective organisation, stimulate leadership & empowerment of well-motivated and equipped personnel with focus on first time right execution
• Manage all activities required for smooth xe2x80x98arrival-to-departurexe2x80x99 and xe2x80x98maintain to operate xe2x80x98processes, this includes responsibility for all operational 24/7 shift, the operational day shift and maintenance teams
• Monitor and actively steer service performance and improvement and ensure follow up of customer complaints in line with customersxe2x80x99 expectations and commercial contracts to deliver on SLE and NPS targets
• Ensures reliability of assets within terminal to maintain compliance to legal standards, safe operating limits, Vopak standards and customer SLE
• Drive the maturity growth of the terminal to operational excellence based on the Vopak values
• Create a connected organisation including the Lesedi terminal organisation with a highly engaged workforce where everyone are able to daily contribute
• Driving a cost leadership mind-set across the organisation
• Together with the financial manager is accountable for stock management as per Vopak stock standards and customer contracts
• Maintains strong collaboration with the technical and engineering teams for terminal optimization and studies
• Continues drive for a digitalised and paperless operation

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

• Develop and maintain a constructive working relationship with public authorities, associations and service providers / suppliers
• Represents terminals in global forums related to terminal management

Qualifications & Experience Required

Tertiary Qualification

• Post Graduate Degree in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) , Logistics, BTech in Operations Management
• Masterxe2x80x99s in Business Administration will be an added advantage

Experience

• At least 10-15 years of operations/refining/maintenance experience, of which 5-10 years must have been spent in management of similar facilities
• Proven track record of achieving l excellence in a petrochemical/manufacturing/refining/terminal type of environment
